Firefighters battle fire, summer heat at Katonah blaze

By FRANK BECERRA JR.

THE JOURNAL NEWS

(Original publication: June 27, 2007)

KATONAH - Several firefighters suffered heat exhaustion fighting a house fire overnight.

The fire was reported just after midnight at 264 Cherry St. The residents of the home got out safely. The Katonah Fire Department had to deal with live electrical lines down in the front yard as firefighters attacked the blaze.

Katonah called for mutual aid from Bedford Hills, Mount Kisco and Goldens Bridge firefighters.

The Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps was called to the scene to make sure firefighters were hydrated and to give them wet towels as they exited the burning house on a very warm summer night. A few firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team responded to try to determine a cause.
