FF Edward Summers- Patchogue FD

1 post in this topic

We have been advised that Firefighter Edward Summers, a 35 year member and Ex-Captain of the of the Patchogue (Long Island, N.Y.) Fire Department, as well as a 12 year member of the North Merrick FD, died suddenly Thursday while at a work detail at Patchogue Fire Headquarters.  The cause of death has not yet been determined but personnel on the scene worked vigorously to try and bring FF Summers back after his collapse on the truck floor, but unfortunately meeting no success.

As always, our sincere condolences go out to all effected.

As a side note, if FF Summers' death is determined to be heart/stroke related, odd's are, his family will not be taken care of (as Congress intended them to) by the Department of Justice.

If you haven't contacted your member of Congress to wake up President Bush and especially Attorney General Gonzales about the families of fallen Firefighters who have not received the PSOB benefits they deserve and are entitled to, perhaps this will serve as a reminder. Rest assured, if you, as a Firefighter are stricken with a fatal heart attack or stroke, your family will also be felt sorry for-but probably get little support by the Federal Government-and in particular, the Dept of Justice PSOB office.

What if this death was you?

It makes us wonder if the current Congress is concerned about fixing this? If they did, wouldn't it be fixed by now? Please take time to write and ask...so get this fixed and to give your Federally elected officials the benefit of the doubt...and the opportunity to fix this.
