American Eagle leaving Stewart

Stewart Airport — American, the first airline to bring passenger service to Stewart International Airport, has announced it will be dropping all service from Stewart effective Sept. 5.

The reason given for that decision was its planes were needed in more profitable locations. Stewart officials speculated at the time the airline was feeling competition from two discount airlines, JetBlue and AirTran, that began service in December and January, respectively.

The departure of American Eagle leaves five airlines serving Stewart, the others being U.S. Airways, Northwest Airlines and Delta Connection.

Damn shame! The more choices, the better. It's not the airport's fault. Stewart is convenient and easy to use, unlike NYC's airports. Guess I'll try Westchester next time I need an AA flight.
