Breaking News Network: Started by a buff ?

Saw what's the story behind Breaking News Network?

A Daily News photographer told me that everybody in the media uses it.

Was it started by a buff?

How accurate is it if he relys on volunteers to send in all notifications?

Or does he have a few paid employees that monitor the serious channels like NYPD SOD, etc??

Great business example of somebody turning a hobby into a business as with that old "Police Call" directory started by a buff in Califorrnia.
