House fire in Beacon under investigation

BEACON — City firefighters spent over five hours at the scene of a blaze at 12 Mountain Lane this morning.

The house was vacant and there were no injuries, Andrew Phelps, public information officer for the City of Beacon Fire Department, said in a prepared statement.

The department was dispatched to Mountain Lane at 4:35 a.m. Upon arrival, Chief Timothy Joseph confirmed a single-family house was on fire and a second alarm was transmitted, Phelps said, summoning an engine from Glenham’s Slater Chemical Company and the Village of Fishkill’s Firefighter Assist and Search Team.

The fire was extinguished after an hour and firefighters began overhauling the structure using heavy excavation equipment, Phelps said.

The department was placed back in service at 9:57 a.m., five hours and twenty minutes after the first units arrived at the scene of the fire, Phelps said.

The fire is being investigated, Phelps said.

City police, Beacon Volunteer Ambulance, Glenham Fire Department, Fishkill Fire Department, Chelsea Fire Department and Rombout Fire Department all provided assistance or coverage for the City of Beacon during the incident.
