Interesting article about how Metro-D.C. area departments are using new "wake up" alerting technology. I know it's used in a lot of firehouses in L.A. County, and it certainly is more pleasant then the traditional.

Sounds like a good idea. At night, the dispatch hits our overhead with the in house PA. The tone is a paging "bing" which is not too bad but still startles you if you don;t adjust the speaker volume and we don't have activated house-lights. This system seems interesting and I would like to check it out.
