A Lens Addition For A Canon Digital Rebel

3 posts in this topic

I'd like to purchase my first additional lense for my Canon Digital Rebel.

I'm not sure which is better to add first, a wide-angle or a telephoto zoom lens?

I'm leaning towards a Zoom.

My current lens is the kit lens that comes with the D-reb, it's an 18-55 and I'd like to expand my current range.

Also, I hear good things about the Sigma brand, but should I stick with Canon lens?

Seth,

I stated with the Kit Lens and a 70-210 zoom. Between the two of them I got things done for the first year I have the Rebel. I just recently added a 50mm 1.8 lens for Night stuff. As well I added a Tamron Zoom 28-300. Reason for the upgrade was to prevent lens changes at Fire scenes. I still use the kit lens for Rig shots and stuff like that.

Thanks for the advice! I actually just discovered a treasure trove of stuff, including a beautiful zoom lens and another type of lens, and a Canon hotshoe flash. Now I just have to figure out how to use them all. Time to sit down and read my Digital SLR book.
