reading #4 on the top 10 got me thinking: for a call at say, 5:50pm, does FDNY send the day crew or the night crew? and then if the day crew is sent, does the night crew rotate in later on or do they wait at the house?

There is no clear answer to that one.

For the most part FDNY relieves about an hour early. So then at 5:50pm it should be the night crew riding. However if the day crew is riding then yes if it were a job then they would at some point report to the scene and send the day crew home.. There are a lot of things that can change this such as awaiting reliefs and other things.
