Rolldown Gates And YOU!

3 posts in this topic

Here is a recent job where the push was delayed due to the brothers having some difficulty forcing the roll down gates to the 99 cent store.

Unfortunately this is a common occurrence in places like Harlem and Tremont where these rolldown gates and taxpayers are all too common Many times the gates are warped, making it quite difficult to remove the slats. Another method that is used to attack these gates is the "Triangle Cut". Another good tip I learned from a crusty O/V man was to poke holes in the slats with the pike end of the haligan and then use those holes to pull the slats out.

Anyone else?

I got a chance to witness this one first hand. From engine on scene to water on the fire was maybe 6 minutes. Real issue was the delay in notification. 95/36 is only 4 blocks south and the store was front to back by the time they got there.

Always make sure you put a ladder under the gate prevent the remaining slats or entire roll down from coming down on you.

Take the extra minute to get a good opening you can work with. Once you get the heated gate wet its going to warp and you will not be removing anything without cutting it out.

Here's the full series...

The triangle cut is good ...but don't complete the cut until a line is in place ....then make the plunge cut as Lt.Campo calls it... then dead the blade. Ice cream cone cut is good to..
