Although I appreciate the fact that I am thought of now and again, I have to pass on commenting about this. I still show up to work and do my job as well as I ever did and don't plan to change that, I have stayed away from EMTBravo for a long time and don't feel like entertaining a political debate. I ask that those involved fight their own battle and remember that the dispatchers are people with families, lives, and homes too.
    Respectfully,
    Kris Mason
    Public Safety Dispatcher, Yonkers NY

One of the most ridiculous things I've read on this site. EVER! Do you really believe that?
    Or fluids,
    Or meds,
    or advanced cardiac care,
    or advanced intervention techniques,
    or an advanced airway.

I understand what you're saying but there are certain things that firemen with a CFR-D level of training just can't do whereas a paramedic's or even an EMT's skillset is much greater. But if you're just talking manpower then I see your point.

So what do you call putting out a TV ad with a Hollywood style explosion that never really happened anywhere in your district. Or claiming that you're "literally saving lives everyday" due to the shortcomings of another agency? Like it or not, that is mudslinging and its sensationalism. We all know what the majority of these EMS runs really are and most are NOT life threatening situations as some would have the public think.
I understand the role of the union is to protect it's membership at all costs. Just think that going after another agency is cheap and in this case highly misleading.

As is typical, a police officer getting good press only garners two or three replies. Start a thread about purple lights in POVs or which color reflective chevrons look coolest on the back of the rig and the thread goes on for days.
Good job officer! Acts like this give us all hope. We should all strive to be as kind as PO DePrimo.

I found the following on the DOJ's website.....
Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMGs) are organizations whose members use their motorcycle clubs as conduits for criminal enterprises. OMGs are highly structured criminal organizations whose members engage in criminal activities such as violent crime, weapons trafficking, and drug trafficking. There are more than 300 active OMGs within the United States, ranging in size from single chapters with five or six members to hundreds of chapters with thousands of members worldwide. The Hells Angels, Mongols, Bandidos, Outlaws, and Sons of Silence pose a serious national domestic threat and conduct the majority of criminal activity linked to OMGs, especially activity relating to drug-trafficking and, more specifically, to cross-border drug smuggling. Because of their transnational scope, these OMGs are able to coordinate drug smuggling operations in partnership with major international drug-trafficking organizations (DTOs).
Just because you may know some of them and they are "charitable" doesn't mean they aren't part of a criminal organization. When you see a gang poster in a precinct, the hells angels are listed right along side the bloods and the crips, they are all gang members there is no difference.

I give the benefit of the doubt to those providers who deserve it, and unfortunately the majority don't. Of course there's lazy cops and firemen... The same way there's lazy doctors, nurses, and workers at Walmart. I still work as a medic and I will come off a midnight tour with the PD, straight to my EMS gig and get my coworkers up off the couch to go out and train after working all night. How many other medics/EMT's do that where I work? Bottom line is that if I don't get the guys up to train, then they won't take the initiative themselves. It's nothing against any of them, it's just the way it is.

Really, what was the big deal here? A vehicle was involved in a collision and ended up in a precarious spot with people inside. The crews arrived on scene, sized up the situation, stabilized the bus and removed (extricated) the patients. Bread and butter, routine, basic stuff. Nothing fancy or out of the ordinary here. The only thing different here is the number of people that needed to be removed.
Extrication doesn't always mean using the jaws.

Your sentiments are a common misconception amongst the uninformed because for most ESU guys, it doesn't suck. The key element of the mnemonic ESU is SERVICE. ESU cops are there as a service to their fellow patrol officers by utilizing specialized training and providing specialized equipment to get a job done that a patrol cop can't possibly do with his/her level of training and equipment at hand. Whether it's a sick raccoon, a cop who locks his/her keys in their patrol car, retrieving a piece of evidence from an area that may be inaccessible to patrol officers, all the way up to the big pin job or the big newsworthy hostage job, real ESU cops enjoy being an asset to their fellow officers and take pride in their work, from the "ridiculous animal job" to the heavy jobs.
A lot of people think an ESU cop spends his days cutting people out of cars and booming doors. The reality is most of the time is spent with the seemingly mundane jobs, but even the mudnane jobs have their role. An ESU cop who becomes proficient handling animals and utilizing the tranquilizer guns and animal nooses by responding to "all those silly animal jobs" will be more proficient when he/she is now executing a search warrant and is tasked with utilizing the same equipment to neutralize the drug dealers aggressive pit bull.
