White Plains, NY — The auditorium at White Plains Hospital Center (WPHC) will serve as a training destination for EMS providers on the evenings of February 15 and February 22 when credentialed presenters will provide a course on potential nuclear, biological and chemical emergencies. Attendees will learn how to recognize radiological, biological or chemical incidents and how to wear protective equipment during the emergency.

The Hospital will co-sponsor the eight-hour training session on two evenings with the Westchester Department of Emergency Services and the Westchester Medical Center Regional Resource Center. During the first half of the course, to be given February 15th, EMS providers will learn how to recognize the physical conditions they would likely encounter in response to a WMD attack. In addition to reviewing the properties of many of the substances that may be employed in a WMD incident, the participants will learn safety and medical treatment protocols.  In the second half of the course, to be given a week later, they will learn how to wear protective gear.

Approximately 25 to 30 EMS providers are expected to attend the course that will be given between 7pm and 11pm each of the two evenings in the hospital auditorium.  Satisfactory completion of the course will entitle attendees to a certification and eight Continuing Medical Education credits.  The Hospital plans to host additional seminars for EMS providers in the months ahead.

Space for this seminar is still available, and all EMS personnel are invited to attend.  For more information on this seminar and to register, call the Regional resource Center at 914-493-7367.
