FDNY - Duration of call.

I have noticed that when the FDNY is operating at a working fire the dispatcher advises the battalion/division chief the duration of the call. Ex. Battalion 19 your duration of this call is 17 minutes.

Any reason why they do this?

TB pretty much nailed it. There's a bunch of factors an IC has to be aware of on an incident. Personal note, it's just us dispatchers holding the hand of the incident commander.
