New Haven Plays Host to Mock Emergency Situation

Published: Sunday, August 01, 2010

By Jonathan Burton, Special to the Register

NEW HAVEN — The city played host to a full-scale emergency shelter simulation with the American Red Cross Saturday at Hill Regional Career High School.

The simulation aimed to prepare Connecticut’s Region 2 for an emergency situation, according to Roy A. Piper, Region 2 coordinator for the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

Not a particularly well written article, but the writer is an intern with the Register. Anyway, I took part in this drill since I'm the Intern for NH Office of Emergency Management, roleplayers were CERT and Medical Reserve Corps members from around Region 2 (which is basically New Haven County.) New Haven CERT acted as shelter staff along with the Red Cross.

Participating Agencies (As shelter staff, not including roleplayers, evaluators or controllers:)

New Haven Office of Emergency Management (Including CERT)

American Red Cross

CT State Animal Response Team (Mobile Pet Shelter)

New Haven and Milford Medical Reserve Corps

New Haven Board of Education Security/Special Constables

New Haven Police Department

Yale Police Department

AMR New Haven
