Chemicals Sicken Cortlandt Sanitation Worker

A town sanitation worker was sickened Tuesday by exposure to a toxic chemical while picking up household garbage.

If I am not mistaken this job also included a HazMat job at HVHC because the workers partners took him to the ER in the garbage truck containing the chemical instead of waiting for EMS and FD on scene.

Unbelievable! I too read this article and was pissed off. This just happened over the summer in Croton where 3 Sanitation workers were sickened, 1 more seriously. People really have no common sense anymore. I work Sanitation and it boggles my mind as to what goes through peoples heads. They will throw away ANYTHING and obviously never mark the containers. By the time its in the truck, its usually too late. Sometimes i think our truck is a ticking time bomb going down the street, very scary.

At least in the Croton incident, the homeowner who disposed of the chemical was charged with several crimes. I can only hope the same happens in the Cortlandt case so that maybe it will send a message.
