Earthquake Off Long Island Coast

A magnitude 3.9 quake was detected about 80 miles south-southeast of Southampton just before 10:45 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter was about 122 miles from New York City about 4.5 miles deep in the Atlantic Ocean. :o

Cool -

I'm usually on top of these things as I teach Earth Science. In fact, I have a classroom seismograph. When I get in tomorrow, I'll check to see if anything was recorded. Although I'm not too optimistic because I don't remember seeing anything when I left school this afternoon.

hmm...interesting.....will have to check the seismograph at the NYS Museum in Albany to see if anything shows there too.....

ehhh, tis no big thing...we get 3-4 of those a week here in Southern California...holler when it's a 5.0 or bigger :P
