The apparatus upgrade continues, next the Rescue!

Any photos of 80B3 yet, lol? Maybe Sat?

Looking foward to doing my first call in it as 45-M-2 on Saturday evening. (Usually M-1, filling in for M-2)

One Freightliner down, one more to go! The uncomforable rides are going to be a thing of the past for the pts!!!

Hey Ed,

Any plans for the old Freightliner? Perhaps a rehab vehicle or mini-rescue??

Good luck with it!

The oldest Frieghtliner (80B3) was traded in for the new 80B3. As far as the next Frieghtliner (80B1) it's a 1999, and due for replacement in 2007, unkown at this point what will happen with that.

However, each Somers Ambulance is equipped as a "Rehab Unit". Each carries a Gatorade Cooler, cups, Gatorade mix, and a 5 gallon water bottle, as well as a case of bottled water.

Also, each Somers Engine and Ladder carry a case of bottled water. Our policy is that 2 Ambulances respond to working structure fires, brush fires, and any other extended duration incident, 1 is strictly for Rehab purposes.

Also, the new Rescue 20 (Heavy Rescue) (expected delivery in June) will also be equipped for rehab.

So it probally won't be kept for those reasons.

We went with the Freightliners as an experiment, because we were having such problems with Brakes and transmissions on the older E-350's.

It was only suppose to be 1, but the Fire District did a back-to-back order to save some money.

The experiment worked well, maintenance wise, the transmission and brakes for outlasted the older E-350's. Hopefully the newer E-450's will be comparable to the FL's

I love the numering/lettering scheme of 80B3 when you look at it quickly is looks like BOBS on the side of the bus.

Good luck maintenance wise gang. Bodywise be safe with her.

Have you seen every manufacturers patient compartment after a roll over? Not much different.

If you know body construction, and look at how different companys built bodys, you will see there is a big difference. that difference pays off when you have an accendent. the same goes for comercial cabs vs. custom cabs. night and day difference in safety, yet people still buy comercial cab fire apperatus to save a few bucks yet comprimise safety. It's all about the safety of the people riding in these rigs, that should be the number one priority.

They're all, for the most part, constructed the same way. Take any rig, say at 60 mph, and "rub" against a tree.

Then we will have some data!
