Rockland towns,

fire crews forge

housing for heroes

RAMAPO — Matthew Giannella has a

phenomenal deal on housing. He pays

$600 a month for a three-bedroom house

in Hillcrest. His rent includes heat, electric,

water and cable.

The catch: In exchange for living in a house

owned by the Hillcrest Fire Company, the

21-year-old volunteer firefighter is

expected to respond to half of the

department's alarms, about 400 a year.

He has to share the house with up to three

other firefighters.

you know I can think of a lot of places that could benefit from a program like this and not just in NY either. Problem is who is friends with who and if too many hands stir the pot. I will say this, iit is an excellent program/ Someone else was talking to me on the phone about a program just like this in another area of rockland
