Yonkers Experimenting With GPS ????

Noticed a few radio cars with a black, round, gps device on the trunk. Guessing they are experimenting with GPS systems to monitor radio cars on patrol.

ypd is using blackberry's now instead of mdt's in some units

The blackberrys are for undercover cars only because MDT antennas are too big and obvious. What I saw looks like other GPS device-round, flat, black in color, resembles a stick on air freshener.

YPD does not have GPS. The balckberry units being field tested now are portable and rechargeable. The new cars are outfitted with a new computer system that has GPS capabilities, but are not activated, are disconnected and there are no plans to activate them.
