Despite a plea from Newburgh Police Chief Michael Ferrara that his department needs more officers than it has now, the city council voted 3-2 to adopt a 2012 budget that includes seven police officer layoffs

LOL. Nah..they don't need like 27 more...less getting rid of 7. Well a few departments will benefit from the addition of some street experienced cops.

I agree with alsfirefigter...Newburgh City great police officers. I'm sure they will get picked up in a heart beat. Good luck to them.

Newburgh could double their nighttime coverage and still be busy. I just don't know what the answer is. When you don't have any money coming in, you can't really pay for services. Still paying for "urban renewal" after all these years.

Newburgh is really going to be in bad shape because everyone else is cutting too. How will they fill the coverage gaps? Both the Orange County SO and New York State Police are stretched thin as it is.
