Hey things happen. This is also a reason why I tell, teach and preach to EMS and fire service personnel in my audience, don't run on an incident ground. Guess its one of those stories that catch eyes with the headlines. I mean there's really not much of a story there, it fell, he picked it up and got it back in the cooler. Some irrigation and the process they do before placing it into anothers body I'm sure it will be ok.

They make it sound like the heart itself touched the ground. It didn't. The thing is wrapped up multiple times for protection and sterility. It is probably well padded in there too since the average human heart is the size of a clenched fist and that packaged looked the size of a small turkey. Whatever.
