Solar Storm Could Affect GPS Tonight

3 posts in this topic

Experts say the largest solar storm in five years is about to hit the Earth, and could disrupt GPS, along with power grids and airplane flights.

The sun erupted March 6, and the effects should reach Earth between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. EST Thursday (0600 GMT and 1000 GMT), according to forecasters at the U.S. government's Space Weather Prediction Center. The storm started with a massive solar flare, and is growing as it accelerates away from the sun.

Details, updates, and additional photos can be found at the NASA website.
