Peekskill - Possible Drowning 6/30/2012

5 posts in this topic

PEEKSKILL — A 15-year-old White Plains boy is in critical condition today after he was found drowning in a public swimming pool hours after it had closed Saturday.

The White Plains teenager and three Peekskill boys, ages 15 and 16, illegally hopped an 8-foot-tall fence securing the pool at Depew Park about 10:35 p.m., Peekskill police said.

When the White Plains boy jumped into the deep end, he immediately began struggling to stay afloat, Peekskill Police Chief Eugene Tumolo said.

The other boys initially were unable to rescue him. They called 911 and were able to flag down a passer-by, who climbed the fence and pulled the young man from the water.

None of the boys' names were released Sunday.

Firefighters had to use bolt cutters to open the gate around the pool.

Emergency responders performed CPR on the White Plains boy, who was taken to Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt in critical condition about 11 p.m. He was later transported by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Hospital officials say the 15-year-old White Plains boy who was found drowning in the Depew Park Pool last weekend will be taken off life support tonight. Jared Amory was declared brain dead Tuesday at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Terrible tragedy, thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this young man.
