Antique Fire Truck Restoration

9 posts in this topic

My department is finally moving forward with starting the process to restore our 58 Mack Pumper. My question to all is

1) Any recommendations who to use?

2) How did your department fund it? (Grants, fundraising, taxpayers etc)

We got a $30,000 grant through NYS prior to the economic problems that occurred several years ago

AS a former member of Patterson, here is what I remember about it: Right off the bat, the motor is seized. It will need new tires all around(one of the fronts is gouged down to the belts). Front drum brakes are leaking. Transmission is an unknown. There are some issues with rust...small hole near headlights, lumpy body in spots, around the rear tires has been painted a different color red, compartment under driver door, and underneath the body. Given the dis function of the dept I don't think I can be fixed (truck or dept)

I recommend selling it to Andy Leider

How ever much $ you think it will take to do the resto, double it. As far as time, that all depends on how many USEFUL people you have on the job.

Do you remember or can you get the specific agency that gave the grant?

Also Jere Lady of Lady And Taylor / Pennsylvania Fire Apparatus does an unreal job. Jus know that active fire apparatus take priority over resto jobs.
