WASH YOUR HOOD SUNDAY: A recent study performed by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health found that firefighters have increased risks of contacting cancer versus the general population. Washing your gear after a fire is one of the most important things we can do to reduce this risk, but many times we forget to wash our hood. The "Wash Your Hood Sunday" initiative from the Firefighter Cancer Support Network is one way for us to reduce our risk of cancer.

 

Sunday's are usually a more relaxed day around the enginehouse, take a few minutes to walk out onto the apparatus floor, change out your regular hood for a spare and throw that thing in the extractor.... you'll be glad you did!
