Putnam Valley Brush Fire 8/25/05

4 posts in this topic

I heard Putnam Valley had a large brush fire at about 17:45 this evening, approx. 3-4 acres in size between the Taconic St. Parkway and Wiccopee Rd. (between Peekskill Hollow Rd. and Pudding St. exits). Kent and Mahopac Falls went on standby in their own quarters. Anyone have any further on this? I could smell a brush fire like odor in the area of north Somers this afternoon.

We were back today up on the hill--all day digging a fire line. Large area heavy underbrush--alot of burning underground. Units assigned today-

24-1-1, 24-1-3, 24-8-3, PVFD personnel, NYSP park rangers, NYS DOC also had 2 crews assisting. We are tenativly set to return in the morning to continue the line--lets all pray for rain!!!!!

There is no easy way to get water up there--aprox. 1/2 mile in----and not really easy acces for a tanker shuttle to boot!!

Thanks for all the help and support from our mutual aid companies
