Suspicious package shuts fire station

November 26, 2005

A fire station was closed last evening after a firefighter opened a package sent to him at the station and became nauseated, according to a Fire Department spokesman. The package was sent by a Durham, N.C., man who is a fan of the Discovery Channel program, ''Firehouse USA: Boston," and who phoned the station last week, said David Pfiel, a department spokesman. The show chronicles the action at the Huntington Avenue station, which houses Engine 37 and Ladder 26. Lieutenant Neal Mullane, the package recipient, opened the package about 5 p.m. and did not feel well afterward, Pfiel said. The package contained T-shirts, a statue of a firefighter and other items, along with a powdery substance. Nothing hazardous was found to explain Mullane's reaction, Pfiel said.

I wonder if that will be one of the last shows they show?
