  1. rest in peace. volunteering was something he didnt have to do. he gave his life for what he enjoyed doing. god bless him.
  2. doesnt service awards have something to do with this?
  3. the cause of the fire was the accident. you cant really tell from the pictures but it was pretty bad. he was either cut off or a problem with the truck itself. he went through the gaurdrail and pretty much landed on 9a. the driver was very lucky to survive.
  4. why does it matter to the career guys so much about the appauratus of the volunteer depts? In my dept we have 2 ladders, 2 engines, 2 bls units, and a utility and one of the lowest taxes in westchester. we cover almost 3 miles with a ton of commercial property including factories, warehouses, hotels, motels, and office buildings. we average about 1100 calls a year. i have never pulled up to a residental or commercial alarm and heard someone say what a waste of tax dollars. if a mulicipality feels its necessary to have 8 engines and 4 ladders cover their community and tax payers dont have a problem i dont see why you should. Before i was a volunteer when my father and brother did this i always told the guys how much credit they deserve. We HAVE to have the passion to do this everyday. everyone on here knocks our training, our dedication, our desires and the now the reason for doing it. The real volunteers out there know what i mean when i say we dont need a tax break, gas credits, a gym membership or anything else. We do it because we love to do it.
  5. lets here how volunteer fire depts are the biggest scam.
  6. And to those that say it can't be done, or its not needed, one just has to look back to 1995, when the NYPD, the Transit Police, and the Housing Police, effectively consolidated into one department, the NYPD. Some of the old Transit cops I work with have all said that the merger was talked about for years, but no one ever really took it seriously, until the "Hostile Takeover" as the Transit guys called it, actually happened. At the time Transit PD, was the fourth or fifth largest police department in NYS. why would that mean that volunteer fire depts in westchester need to be consolodated?
  7. like i said.. i got a little lost along the way.using elmsford as an example how would consolidating just say elmsford, ardsly, dobbs, irvington, and tarrytown help? would it not be the same as having 3,4,5, or more depts responding to a room and contents fire?
  8. forgive me for asking but i got a little lost along the way. what would be the advantage of consolodating the villages in greenburgh or any other village in westchester? it seems like things are run pretty smooth the way they are.
  9. firecapt32 is correct. Elmsford is 1 square mile and the fire district is 2.8 miles.
  10. are you guys talking about vollunteers in fairview, hartsdale, and greenville or the volunteer dept's in the town of greenburgh?
  11. just wondering why north white plains wouldnt be called being they are about a mile down the road?
  12. I believe the arrest records provided by lohud were only arrests made in the city of MV. Who knows what else they have been arrested for in other communities
  13. From what i understand in todays paper neither the ladder or the squad was responding from thier firehouse. They were both responding from a prior run and it was an unusual traffic pattern for these companies which contributed to the accident.
  14. did anyone take the test yesterday? If so what did you think?
