16 fire5 In Westchester a Deputy Coordinator (Battalion) is dispatched upon the transmission of a 10-75 by the IC. Since NY is a home rule state it is the chief/IC's call on requesting mutual aid. Most departments have their major alarm policies in the CAD at 60 control usually up to at least the 3rd alarm. If I am on a scene as a battalion I only request through 60 control what the IC asks for, sometimes they say which dept they want sometimes they don't, in that case I will simply request (for example 1&1 to ABC dept) and leave the rest in the capable hands at 60 control.

Today June 22nd marks the 13th anniversary of the LODD of Lt. Michael E "Satch" Neuner Sr. of the Brewster, NY FD. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you Mike, you were my brother in law, a fellow cop and firefighter but also my best friend. I am sure as you look down upon us you have to be so proud of Jamie, Michael, Nick & Jen who have all become wonderfull young adults and you must have a huge smile with that beautiful grandaughter of yours. We all miss you Mike and we know that you are up there keeping all of us safe! Love & miss you bro.

Barry you are 100% right. Our department is working on by-laws (has to be this way) to improve the training standards for all from a probie up to Chief. The problem is some dinosaurs on our fire council or those that say we are trying to become the FDNY. The chief in a vollie dept can only go so far in some areas unfortunately. I know despite our nay sayers we will get this accomplished even if we lose some "members". Firefighter safety is a battle I will personally never stop fighting for.

The building was one of three on the property and it was 600 to 700 feet lay to where the 1st due engine stopped. There were some walkways that were shoveled but other areas had close to 2' of snow. The operations at this incident were exterior from the onset. The floor on the 2nd level had several holes in it, the 1st floor also had several holes and the interior stairway was burnt out. The closest hydrant was near the bottom of the driveway buried in snow and the hydrants in the area are very low pressure, hence the request for the tankers. I hope this answers some of your question yanks 4ever. As for the cause I have no idea but this fire as you can see in the photo was well advanced upon arrival.

THe mutual aid coordinators are battalion 10 to 19 and we all are assigned specific areas. The position of mutual aid coordinator is basically that of a resource officer, to get the IC what they need. This post is titled Mohegan fire 2/8/10, however I will not take a shot at them or any other department anywhere career,vollie or combination. It has been said in this thread and several others about consolidation, when the hell is everyone going to wake up and see that numbers are dwindling both career and volunteer (not all departments, but many). Why isn't consolidation discussed seriously? A one word answer - EGO. Some people in authority need to pull the heads out of their a** and look at what they are REALLY providing everywhere. This is something that should be looked at from the inside before (like a lot of the regualtions & standards we have now) are forced upon us by outside or government agencies. This is all basically a turf war kind of thing from my point of view, personally I don't care what the name of the department is on the side of the truck that pulls up IFO my home as long as they know what they are doing when they get off their truck. ANother area where consolidation might help, look at all the different organiztions in Westchester (volunteer side) and we wonder why the volunteer service isn't heard by our elected officals. How about 1 organization with different branches or divisions, maybe we would get taken seriously. All this would be great, but let's face it fantasy island does not exist!
