  5. i completley agree with the ems serving a decon role, and ya, a trailer with decon equipment in ardsley would be good to supplement the squads,,, but i think any more squad trailers should go up north we currently have 6 squads below I-287 and its time to spread out the equipment, and your totall rite, the ideal is every department to specialize in one area beyond fire fighing.... mabe for example if Fairview specialized in tech rescue, and hartsdale had hazmatt... and ardsley had decon. and greenvile had confied space and dobbs ferry had a dive team, this would add a great number of resources thus also increasing the working relationships of all departments while allowing each to specialize and become experts in their fields.. my main point is that we in the fire serive are spreading our selfs to thin...
  6. honeslty i don;t think that ardsley would need a trailer, squad 6 is hartsdale greenville and fairview, with men with countless hours of training in that area, how many guys in AFD are trained to the level they feel comfortablle operating in those suits with that kind of equipment.. as a volunteer my self, i feel that the Firefighters under me could us alot more fire service training with more typical firefighting duties then spend the hours and money on completely training guys in these fields, with squad 6 and other trialers so close, along with yonkers and county hazmatt i would rather see those duties left to them... Not to down play the roles those fire depaartments like arsdley play, but i thinkmany departments in this day in age are spreading them selves way to thin... we need to worrie about hazmatt, and we need to worrie about technical rescue and buiding collapse's, but lets face it all of us as firefighters need to master basic fire fighting operations and extrication 1st, and just a few years on the job or volunteering doesn;t cut it... eveyr one i know wants to focuse on hazmatt or hazmatt tech training, or technical rescue training, but facts are we go to more fires and fire related calls, and while the speciallized training is great to have, the bottom line is you can sporead ur selft of department to thin, yo need to master one or 2 area's rather then try to focuse on prefoming in mnay area's with just a basic knowledge.... this post is not ment to be geared at ardsley, but its geared at all departments in this change time period of the fire service, i haev many great friends in many departments through the county including ardsley, but this is my opinion and suggestion to all departments lets make sure we master the basics then begine to expand, we can't do everythin, were not super humans.....

  9. what are the requirments to join, and can any on for see the team being able to offical respond in the near future?
  10. i know Scarsdale FD had a parkway run today involving a pin, but my question deals with the parkway itself. Does Scarsdale run north? Who runs south? Do they send the rigs in both directions, both within Scarsdale?... and what about when its between Scarsdale, does one dept run each way like the Sprain? if so why not?
  11. Next year, can't wait... July 26-31....Baltimore MD.....
  12. www.Kenltand33.com Their web site, During a visit on saturday july 17th by Myself, HFD209, FFd260 and CM36, we learned alot of interesting things about this station, several of whihc i feel westchester departments or the county should look into, 1st off they are 100% volunteer and the 2nd bussiest engine company in the nation. they had a CAD dispatch system with about 20 live in members who actually live at the station, the interesting part is theat 15 seconds after hearing the tones they are out the door...15 sec's seems nuts but i saw it my self, they hang around all ready to go, dipatch inaddition to the CAD from prince george county includes led signs throught the station that give the box number and location along with nature of the call, also all members recieve text pages giving the same information... standing in station 33 we heard a few runs come in including a workin car fire, we heard the tone alerts, station 33 over the P.A. system, the dispatcher wasn't even done readin the location and the led screen had it as well as the members nextel phones... i knwo we have similar stuff up here, but nothing like that nothign that supplements our dispatch systems which i think are not good, i think 60 should look into how prince george county does it..., Also i will say they are some of the nicest guys down there willing to show you around and even let u ride along, but lets just says its more then a ride( contact me for more on that) but take alook at the site and learn more about them and deffinatly recomend a vivit to station 33

  16. well at code 3 day at westchester collectables i asked the product development coordinator how they decide what rigs to make and he said its mostly based on what they think collectors would want... i suggested more FDNY tractor drawn aierals, more yonkers rigs such as the new 306, or rescue 1 or 72... that was taken with alot of interest and he requested picutres of those rigs... aslo i ran by him hartsdales 2000 pierce's and told him i would get him pictures of those, so its a bit of a long, shot,, but well i am trying
  17. i totally agree about the reasoning behind the bad habits, how ever, i still think its dangerious, in hartsdale to be interior certifed you used to need,10 hours of in house training, then basic, intermediate, and survival. and it often took 8 months or more to become interior, with us drilling every tuesday nite, now that it alot of drill time to familarize ones self with equipment, SOP's, and even basics like being confidant with a pack, and air management which takes time, that can;t be taught in 2 weeks, and given its a departments responsibility to train its men whihc is a on goin effort that never ends, i think an excelerated classs like that can do some damage by throwing some one who is cocky caz they been in the burn building and passed a class and did well, but its nothing like the real thing and many of the crazy things like collapse, wires in hallways and stuff that may hang one up on, cann't be truely simulated... even in mask confidence, while this lal helps its not totally real.. i just hope these new FF's at the end of the class still have a level of fear some what about the real thing, havening never been in a real fire before.
  18. while were on this topic i think these classes that are condensed are gret to get them done quick for those whose scheduals it fits, how every, with FF1 the new class being the new interior FF standard, do u feel that a new department member who gets into a class rite away and with in the 1st month is interior certified is a good idea? i don;t think a 2 week course is enough to give u the knowledge u need, that comes form weeks and months and mroe of trainin with ur own department, given one will learn alot in this new class, i think they need more time with theri own departments before being signed off a** interior FF;s
  19. i still stand by the fact that a engine company is 1st to roll if you don;t have a quit, and we have rabbit tools, rams, and irons, seth, 170 and 169 will get in...lol
  20. no offense to any one, i have to say engine, an engine company can always vent vertically or horizontally, while putting water on the fire with sufficient man power. an engine company such as ours carries, roof man's tools, hooks, pikes, and irons along with chain saws, these makes Engine 170 able to function as a fast team or as a truck when responding.. this gives the rig the ability to do a search, vent and put water on the fire, minus the aerial device... a truck company unless it is a quint can't add the water part to extinguish the fire unless its small enough for a can. while the truck company normally does search's and vents, they can;t put large amounts of water on a fire, where as the engine company if forced to can serve a double role venting and searching while the MPO is getting a water source, then the line can be stretched to the fire if your staffing, doesn't allow these actions simultaneously.
