  1. They don't have to challenge the law or anything. New York is what is called an "At will State." This means they really do not need a reason to fire someone.
  2. Congrats to John and Mo. The new Mr & Mrs Munson.
  3. You mean a Tiller?
  4. The senior man concept was a great thing. Many of the career departments still use it when paring up who works with whom on a shift. In the volunteer service you never know who's coming to an alarm. Many of the chiefs don't look at their senior people helping train the newer members, but some do. Some of the chiefs just ignore their senior guys who have been there and done that as they don't want to be shown up. Lot of personality issues.
  5. When is someone going to do something. This place is an accident waiting to happen. Locking dorm doors ala Joe Clark. Read the article. http://www.lohud.com...ts-during-blaze
  6. What will they do when something serious happens resulting in a few deaths? CYA is all I can say. Document everything. You know politicians.
  7. I know the facility you're talking about. Is it Montrose or Mohegan's district? dn't matter which department steps in, Board of Ed, Buildings, CPS, anyone should bring the NYSPD. They will however claim we are violating their religious freedom. But you are right. It is going to take a major disaster and will be on the front page of every paper and there will be a ton of finger pointing. The papers will ask why we didn't do anything.
  8. Seth, congratulations, welcome to fatherhood. My oldest son Craig, a Sgt in the army serving in Afghanistan was born August 16th, my 31st birthday. It is the greatest birthday present in the world. I am divorced and remarried and my youngest son was born on May first, his mothers birthday. They are both very special as your daughter will be to you. There is a special bond when a child is born on a parents birthday.
  9. Just always remember, if there is something stupid drivers can do, they will. Always expect the unexpected. It only takes one.
  10. John, do the ones up here in this corner of the county participate?
  11. If I remember correctly, the day after the fire several pet cats that lived in the building were found alive in several apartments back then. Many were amazed at the way the cats hid during the fire.
  12. For those of us who do live here and pay taxes, the spend and tax days are over. Astorino already looks bad, first he announces raises for 2 key people then he talks about cuts in services, closing parks, not filling other positions (for now). It doesn't look any different. There is still so much fat in the county government that he does not have to cut services, cut some of the fat. Cut out the raises, increase some fee's the county charges, parking at some of the parks where there is no charge now, add a $2 fee, it adds up, what is it to park at playland today? Some of the fee's have not been changed in years. Go to every department in the county and cut their budget. Let's see some of the department heads sweat and see what they come up with. Closing parks, pools and cutting buses to NYC is not the answer. With more people staying home and not vacationing we need the parks, more people are turning to public transportation instead of driving to NYC. Astorino is misguided.
  13. And these people think they did no wrong.
  14. When FIOS became available in my area I was one of the first to switch. Cablevison claims it pays Disney a fortune already, that's for the several Disney Channels, ESPN which they own and several other channels they own as well. It's all spelled out in their contracts. Remember it was Cablevision and Charles Dolan who spent $10 Million on an ad campaign to stop the "west side stadium" because it would have effected revenue from Madison Square Garden which they also own. If you look at your cable bill you will see a charge for "basic" which includes CBS, ABC and NBC. If you get charded for it then it is right for them to get a piece of it. Cablevision has been making money giving you the basic "free" channels for years, so if the networks are asking Dolan for pay up its only right.
  15. You never know what people throw into dumpsters. When cleaning out a garage, add spray cans, paint, tires, pesticides. Then you get the guy next door who see's the dumpster and throws a few things in. There is no such thing as routine. Full PPE and Scotts for dumpsters. Just like everything else. Approach with caution.
  16. I believe fire and police utilize the same dispatchers as they have for years.
  17. Could be worse Hudson, School buses. We've got that up here, one of our fireground channels are used by the school buses. "Hey Charlie, go pick the blond kid up on main and 5th!"
  18. You're not alone Frank. Problem is no one will vote the idiots in Albany out. If 50% of them lost their next election, the rest may get the message.
  19. According to NOAA, 6 to 10 more to come.
  20. Just about all of Garrison has no power. Trees are going down all over. We outside refilling one of the rigs with fuel and could hear the trees in the woods cracking and falling. Got to be up there in accumulation, 10 inches plus. Why are all these idiots still on the roads.
  21. Barry, those may be a partial answer. North of Peekskill, much of the access is only by water through Garrison and into Cold Spring. There are also areas in Westchester where it's steep inclines and through some of the estates and other properties.
  22. Here's a twist, many sections of the Hudson Line have very limited access. North of Peekskill through Garrison almost none except in some places along the tracks. I ride the line often enough and always ask myself what if? The little access road in some areas can barely fit 1 rig.
  23. Dr Marcus Wellbie and Dr Killdaire?
  24. Someone commented that there was one in Mt Vernon a long time ago. It was in either 72 or 73 if I remember right. Long before the mutual aid plans of today, all the technical advances etc. Air chisels were the best we could do then. DADBO help me out here. We had ambulance from all over southern Westchester and CT. Some from NYC as well. It also happened to be the annual inspection night so every rig went out with more than full crews. We managed to get through it with only one DOA and he was in the bathroom in the last car. Mt Vernon Hospital was just up the street and back then had a good E.D.
