  1. Off the Associated Press newswire "WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court has ruled that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge. New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision. The city said that it had acted to avoid a lawsuit from minorities."
  2. I wish you a lot of luck. Hopefully the US Supreme Court does the right thing. I have to agree with Gerry. You expect a politician to be honest? The only politicians who can't lie are the dead ones. Politician and Liar are synonyms.
  3. Ford actually offered to buy Curry out of their franchise over a year ago. Before all the turmoil came about in the auto industry they went and bought out and closed a lot of dealers all over the country. Don't get me wrong, I'm not standing up for the Curry family. The fact was last summer the Ford franchise was bought out by Ford.
  4. 585 got me started. I think I posted this once before, in the town of Cortlandt. There are 5 ladders, 22 engines, 2 tankers, 6 Rescue companies, I did not count utilities and did not add in the VA or Peekskill which is sounded by Cortlandt. Nor did I count marine units or Mini attack. So what do you think? Do we have too many units in this town? 22 Engines at a replacement of $500,000 each. 6 Rescues, how many MVA's do we need at the same time to tie all of them up. We have way too much. Now we could look at Ossining too. What about Greenbugh? Why do we need so much? We could save a lot of money by not buying another rig in all of Westchester for the next 10 years. We have more equipment in this county per square mile, per person than NYC or any county inthe country. Why?
  5. 585. I too live in the Town of Cortlandt, the unincorporated part and I have asked Linda what do i get for my taxes, They collect my garbage and plow my street. That's why one night my wife ended up in the drainage ditch. The hill was total ice, had to call a tow, and PD to get the road sanded. Parks? Not one in my area, they're all down in the villages, pool too. We get 2 ball fields and a dog park. I've been asking for the drainage ditches to be repaired for 4 years now. We see a street sweeper once a year in the spring. We once called for animal control to pick up a rabid racoon the PD shot. It was 3 feet onto the property. They refused. If we combined DPW, town and village hall, courts, all government services in Cortlandt we'd see a decrease in taxes no doubt and no real change in services. Next lets discuss School districts and those taxes which are also out of control.
  6. I've been on Verizon for years and date back to NYNEX Mobile. The service is far superior. I have a Blackberry World Phone and it's great but I miss the camera. I am going to wait a month to replace it even thouigh I can now. I want the new Blackberry Tour. Look it up on Blackerry's website. It's the 9630 Tour.
  7. One drawback to that type of propulsion, no maneuverability unless you are moving. Those engines are like jet ski's. No propeller just forced water.
  8. It's time to dismantle the MTA. The surrounding communities are carrying the agency. Metro North and the LIRR riders pay based on distance. Not a flat fee like NYC subway riders. Most subway type systems today use distance based rider fee's. Washington DC's Metro as well as their commuter RR. Boston's T. Bay area BART. It's time the riders on the subway pay their fair share. It's their system. Yes there are a lot of poor people that ride them but face it. It is almost like another form of socialism if you let the suburban people (usually with a little more $$) It's just another way of the suburbs subsidizing the city instead of a commuter tax. They need to open the books and let forensic accountants go over them in an audit to see where all the money is going. Smells like an AIG type bailout just without showing the public the bonuses.
  9. We all should and leave NYC to figure it out themselves.
  10. How about reduce their retirement to Social security wages?
  11. How about we propose every elected official take a 15% pay cut.
  12. Rob, put a blue light on it, if your truck isn't running you can use tha. I have two mowers, a lawn boy and sear, but they haven't been used in 3 years because i now use a "Juan, Pepe and Roberto." Best mower I ever had.
  13. We keep brush gear on our brush truck, I think we now have 5 sets and more are in the works. PPE has no place in the woods. Wear it for an hour hiking and see how you feel. Going up and down the mountains you'll end up being carried out. Light weight brush gear is the way to go. We're getting more and more and larger brush fires. Especially near parkland.
  14. I think you can wear them only on "dress down days."
  15. count me in +2
  16. I believe this has been discussed to death several times.
  17. May he Rest In Peace
  18. The rigs are long gone, the building pictured last held Continental Villages 14-2-3 until it was decided to have the village who covers the camp respond from their fire house and do away with the buildings there and build new training facilities. There is a complete plain to rebuild the camp with new modern up to date facilities and training buildings for the military.
  19. Camp Smith sits just south of the east side of the Bear Mountain Bridge. It is some 2,000 acres and is a NY Guard Base. This link will bring you to the camps history. http://dmna.state.ny.us/a_history/smithhistory.htm
  20. Chris, you're 100% correct. You need a court order to open anyone's EZ Pass records the same as you would for any financial data because that is what it is, financial data. The myths about reader catching speeders is wrong. When someone goes through a toll they do capture your plates and that is where they can get you for various violations. That is often used. There was talk several years ago about a divorce case where one of the parties was tracked using EZ Pass. Well the unit was attached to the wifes credit card and the thing was in the husbands car. She gave permission to release the info but it did get passed through a judge.
  21. With thte 10's of thousands Rob won in AC, I heard he's buying everyone dinner.
  22. EZ Pass or similar devices used around the country cannot be used for anything other than to pay tolls. Because of the privacy laws around financial issues it is a financial device.
  23. Some one told me Common Sense died years ago. We all need to think before we speak. Much is said in the heat of the moment. Slow down just a little. Think, then speak. It will avoid a lot of problems later.
  24. Left to right, Garrison 15-3-2 North Highlands, Garrison 15-3-1 and Continental Village.
