  1. I don't think anyone / any agency in Westchester has had an incident of that magnitude since the "implementation" of NIMS here. I've been to a few large events and have seen some delegation of duties. The most common assignments I've seen put in place are:

    Command

Operations --> with it broken down to other groups, like "Attack," "Search," and "Roof."

    Safety (Sometimes multiple)

Water Supply --> broken down also with a "Fill Site" and "Drop Site" Operations leader.

    Rehab

    EMS (Treatment & transport)

    Staging

At a few events I can recall, where you had more then one structure involved, you would see it broken into sectors as well.

The Battalion Coordinators could be a great asset for staging, resource unit managemement, liaision, etc.

I would have thought "the Harvey School" may be one. How many departments were there?

  2. Knowing the area and looking at the maps Mt Vernon HS athletic fields as well as Siwanoy CC are both close by and as it was said, time of day and traffic is a factor no matter where in this county. Demps is a good commander and knows how to run an incident and if he calls in for something, he knows what to do. As the IC he looks at his situation and in his true professional maner calls in what he feels he needs. Go the guy out and to the hospital as quickly as possible. Good job of all the people on scene, the fire dept.s VAC, and Con Ed. That's not your every day incident but as it's said, drill till you get it right and drill again until its second nature.

  3. Jimmy, it's one thing for BIG BROTHER to watch. It's another for them to have a say in treatment. Remember this is the same government who when the IRS took over the Mustang Ranch ran it into the ground. Voted themselves raises when the deficit was building, voted themselves a retirement program which pays them for life after 1 term in office, their own health care as well for life. You want them telling you how to treat your patient?

  4. Depends on where you go...

I had red taillight strobes in my old Dodge Avenger and got a verbal warning for them by a DEP Lieutenant.

Also, I've had my stones broken by an officer in my own town about having them in my Mustang, and again by a Trooper on I-84 while stopping to assist at an accident.

I saw the Mustang at the Road Knights in Peekskill. It may have been the cop thought it was a little over the top.

  5. "WAS" is correct, depending on how his business is incorporated and such he can declare bankruptcy on his business and get off without his personal assets being touched. Now if he did what was stated, used his position as an Assistant Chief to get business and then did crap work and in some cases no work and took money as the report shows then correct Shame on him. Too bad for his family.

  6. I have seen this argument before but has there ever been a case where FF was denied benefits due to this? We all know of guys (PD and FD) who have been injured on the ballfield or the "b" job and make it back to work where the injury suddenly occurs. There are enough of those cases that are covered. Wouldn't the municipality employing the FF have to prove it didn't happen on the job or does 207 require the FF to prove it did happen on the job?

I would never make such an allegation in a public forum. You never know who reads these. What you make reference to is highly illegal. I suggest you either rephrase this or delete it altogether.

  7. So what every one is saying because of the magnitude of this event, the local agencies just can't handle it! Bring in the National Guard if need be. NYC doesn't go to FEMA every time there is a major event at the UN do they? We have just as many foreign missions in NY as DC. We have heads of state from anywhere from 2 to 50 nations here at once. I have not heard NYPD cry out for help. When they ask for their fair share of federal funding they get turned down.Maybe they should go to FEMA now.
