I was going to dissect this a little more with a couple of anecdotes, such as, if you're going to get into candles and stuff, do it on the floor. Bringing a cat over to solve a mouse problem and getting a little somethin somethin on the side, Smart move!! He ran for the door and left her?? Chivalry is apparently dead. Why do they always head for the bathroom??? Ever notice that's where you find most of your DOA's??? Point brought up by a friend. I'll bet ya this Andrew fella is really Leo. Only in NY kids!!!

Seneca Avenue off Faile Street, Box 2365, quartered with Battalion 3, K. If anyone wants to go out and about, PM me and I will take you guys to some of these firehouses/other cool buff attractions. Once I start getting into having weekends off, we'll work something out.

Here's another one for the files. From todays NY Daily News... Some early morning hanky-panky nearly proved deadly for a 32-year-old Manhattan woman when a candle ignited a comforter while she and a neighbor were in bed, witnesses said. The victim was having sex with her neighbor, who identified himself only as Leo, at her first-floor apartment on Broadway on the upper West Side yesterday. "The bed was moving back and forth and then - swoosh - the comforter's burning," said Leo, who ran from the fire, apparently leaving her behind. He said he then dialed 911 from another neighbor's place. "This is so embarrassing," said Leo. "We had never done that before and now she's in the hospital and my cat's dead." The victim, whose name is being withheld by the Daily News, was found unconscious in her bathroom. Leo said he'd brought his cat over to help with the victim's mouse problem. She was in critical condition yesterday with severe burns to her face and chest at New York Weill Cornell Medical Center, a hospital official said. Other neighbors at the apartment building escaped the blaze after someone yelled "Get out! Get out!" said Madhuri Kumar, a human rights worker who lives above the victim's apartment. "The hallway was filled with smoke," Kumar said. "The fire lift had to come and get us out the window." (I am presuming this was either TL-22 or TL-35 making the grab, Nice going guys!!!) Andrew Regnier, 38, a friend of the woman's who lives nearby, ran to the scene after hearing the fire trucks racing by. He cradled her pet Chihuahua, Olive, who survived the fire. "I'm still in shock," said Regnier before heading to the burn center to check on his friend. Four firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated at Roosevelt Hospital. Investigators ruled the blaze accidental late yesterday.

I never understood why they named the 1994 Pierce 17-4-4. They had 4-1 and were getting rid of 4-2. Could a new 17-4-3 or a new 17-2-4 be on the horizon??

All I can say, IT'S ABOUT FRIGGIN TIME!!!!! This is definitely a home run for us Dispatcher types and the long suffering members of EMS. Definitely time for a happy dance!!!! Although, I would like to flip off Giuliani for starting this nonsense. I just wonder if I have to start planning on wearing a uniform now.

I wouldn't say we deserve to be criticized twice as much, but we in the emergency services are, and should be held to a higher standard than the average person. We are no different than anyone else, But, when someone screws up like this, it makes us all look bad. I read in another forum about how the cartoonist is a mutt, or other non printable words, but why shoot the messenger?? Look in the mirror and then work to fix the problems that caused this cartoon to be drawn in the first place.

hmmmm this sounds like a plan...

Ahhhhhh ok. Thought there might have been plans for a second bus. That idea was getting kicked around when I was still a member and I left Lake Carmel in 98.

I will ask this question. Where is the outrage against these knucklehads whose actions have sullied those images?? Why hasn't anyone spoken out against people who are in positions of public trust betraying that trust?? Each one of those firefighters you see in those pictures(the flag raising and OKC) has been sullied by the actions of the morons in Sacramento. What upsets you more?? The fact that someone used disgraced powerful images to show how others have disgraced the job?? Or, that the actions of a bunch of morons in California have brought the same disgrace not only on themselves, but every person who gears up?? A little something to consider. As far as people forgetting, no, I don't think they have, but behavior like this cuts the legs off the pedestal members of the emergency services were put on in the days/months following. Actions like we've seen lately such as the drinking in the firehouses and the drug abuse and the sexual assault are taking the shine off things.

We always knew them as the 52's when I was a dispatcher in the Bronx. Mill Plain up in Danbury has a tanker with the motto, Wet and Wild on the cab.
-
17-7-2?? When did you guys get a second bus??
-
Would it be safe to presume it will be replacing 17-2-1 and 2-1 will be relocating to station 2 and 17-2-4 will be disposed of??
-
I have to admit, I always thought this was a cheesy slogan. But the 17-7-1 shirt that came out with the bee flying behind the bus was hysterical. Talk about a christening.

I'd have to say the Taconic north of Route 35. Route 139 past Primrose Drive. Route 35 just before it meets 118 over by the reservoir. And of course, Farmers Mills Road, the entire length from 301 to 52.

That's the one on 312 by 84?? I'll try to stop up. But, I will probably just drop the money in your collection pot. I haven't had too many good experiences with Applebees.

I took the physical in 1997, prior to getting hired for my current position. What does the physical entail now?? When I went through, it was a curl, a lift like I was picking up a stretcher, up and down the stairs holding two twenty pound bags and then two minutes on a hand bike. Has it changed??
-
Why don't they just do the right thing, and train/hire more medics??
-
This is where you, like I said in my making life easier thread, politely put that kid in the cab in their place. Politely. If this fails, talk it over with that particular departments' chief or captain. Usually, I find that solves the problem.
-
Just a quick note. We hired another class and they start Monday. I figure we'll be hiring again within the next few months.
-
No worries, dude. I'll be there.

I've been out to Cali a number of times. Been to quite a few of the places he's mentioned. I think everyone should go there at least once. Seth I hope the test went well. If I could have afforded the trip out there for the application and the trip back for the test I would have been right there with you. Should have told me you were going, I could have set you up with a tour of a few houses or something in LA Co.

The movie could have been better. Rescue Me started off ok and then went to poop. I haven't watched Turd Watch in years, except recently when Gene Simmons was on. Haven't read Firehouse in a while, but one of my friends took the picture that they used for the top 10 stories.

They were backing into quarters and a van blew the light and struck them in the pump panel. The rig is beat up pretty good. All members are OK.
