Very very educational pics here. Lets see if this can continue as a great learning story here!!

Not to take away from your experience, but if anyone wants to hear a little bit more, they can read some of the previous posts about Reedy Creek in this thread! http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=24760

Not only is it not open for climbing, it is in terrible decay. Any attempt to climb could end in very serious injury. A sad unfortunate truth of the relics of days gone by, not necessarily forgotten, its kind of hard to miss a huge hundred foot tall tower on top of a mountain), but for monetary support. On a very clear day, NYC can be seen from the top of Mt. Beacon, as I saw in a pic on someone's MySpace, and if I remember correctly, wasn't it yours JetPhoto?? So yes, it is a great day hike!

I wish NY would wake up and smell the coffee.

Come one, come all!! The East Fishkill Fire District of Dutchess County NY is hosting an apparatus dedication day. All are welcome to attend.

Just for everyone's reference, posted below are the links for guidelines for ALL Incident Alerts. There is some wiggle room for interpretation, but don't push it. If you have a question, ask someone about its appropriateness (in other words if its worth posting). If you have a doubt, then don't post it. Acceptable Types of IA's Incident Alert Posting Guidelines Info for IA Writers - Forum I hope these links help you out. Remember, most of you guys are posting very well, others just need a little fine tuning!!

Actually, I beg to differ. Your first duty is your OWN SAFETY! What are the first 2 things hammered in to you during your EMT class??? BSI & Scene Safety We have to ensure our own safety first. What good are you to a patient when you yourself are hurt or incapacitated??

I agree with you 100% there chief. It's sad to see so much of it around this area too It is good to see some departments out there that hold the ideals of firefighting still. The fire doesn't care who comes, and it shouldn't matter to us who comes either. There needs to be a few more level heads out there, remembering that this is about OUR safety, and the PUBLIC'S safety, and what SHOULD BE DONE for EVERYONE'S best interests, not just a few hot heads, or people upset over something that happened 5, 10, 20, or more years ago between certain departments.

Chelsea had been dispatched to a structure fire as well, but as I was told, it turned out to not be one. Also, as far as calling for farther units, it is a smart decision, believe it or not. Not stripping the entire southern/southwestern corner of Dutchess, who got nailed pretty hard. I forget the exact term, but its jumping past neighboring departments, so allow for coverage inbetween the m/a dept's called, as I said, not stripping an entire area, and their immediate surrounding companies. I wanted to extend a great job done by DC911, they were workin' their butts off up there, a bunch of us were listening in during the whole time. Emt301, if you want to pass that on for us, it would be appreciated!

From the radio traffic: -New Hamburg: 2 Adjacent structures, fires in basements of both, also dispatched in same area for a natural gas leak -Chelsea: Dispatched for a structure fire, apparently nothing found -Rhinecliff: Dispatched for a reported fully involved structure fire -LaGrange: Dispatched to a structure fire -Arlington: Tree vs. car w/unknown status of victims (if any in car at the time, and I never heard anything further) -Multiple relocation companies going to alarms in their stand-by areas -Multiple trees on houses/trailers with arc-ing power lines, either on the ground or arc-ing on the house itself -One instance of a tree down on a propane tank ****These are just the ones I remember off the top of my head. Feel free to post more, and/or PM me and I will compile a running list of Dutchess' major alarms

Gee Rob, don't hold back, lol!!! Oh, and by the way, I agree 100% with you!!!

I can see 2 schools of thought here: Thought Process #1: "I did my civic duty. I dialed 911." Thought Process #2: "To hell with that!! If I get involved, I am likely to get sued." (Seeing as how everyone in this country seems to be sue-happy these days, looking for anyone and everyone to sue). I do find it morally unconscionable for NO ONE to get involved at all, and to just stand around. Score one for the moral degradation of society today.
-
Well then it sounds like its a good time to stop, eh Rob?
-
I actually watched this last night. An amazing story.
-
Ooooh, I know!!! How about a Ferrara Strong Arm!!!

Don't take this personally Jack, but that is where your training comes into play. Training in size-up, and operations. Its not actually the final amount of water that puts out fires, its the application rate. If you can get there and blitz a vehicle fire with a deck gun, you very well can have a quicker, and safer knock-down.
-
I see your point in posting this thread, to discuss the deck gun issue, but just fyi, the Car Fire Video has already been posted as a thread itself. http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=25797&hl=
