  4. went to a class of his last weekend on fireground orientation and RIT. it was a really good experience. Chief Salka is a very good speaker and is very knowledgable. some senior guys in my department even learned a couple things. i personally learned a lot. i'm sure it'll be a good seminar.
  5. We ran a 50/50 for this boy at our chili cook-off last week. He's the boy from Amsterdam, right? I won't be able to attend as I have a class, but I would be interested in any other help I can give. Good luck with the event. You should have a nice day for it!

  7. Oh, wait, not only is our "beast" older, but don't we have more diamond plate on it too? And what about the 2 parades when we brought a hose and had to wash the truck in line up before the parade started? Hey, I was happy with our trophies this year...especially the one's in Westchester
  8. Leave it to you Nate to fill in my blanks! Yes, there are going to be some chef's from the CIA there to judge. We will also have a people's choice award. There are five different trophies to be awarded - best overall chili, best civialian chili, best first responder chili, best theme (for costume, etc) and people's choice. 105.5 out of Putnam County will be there to give away some prizes. Some chili magazine is supposed to be there. Tabasco donated 100 little bottles of tabasco sauce. We have these little chili dolls to give out. We will also have t-shirts and cup "cozzies" for sale. There will be games and activities for the little one's with prizes as well. We will have a concession stand with hot dogs, chips and pretzels, ice cream, water and soda for those with weak stomachs (like me ) Fun for the whole family!!! Saturday is going to be a gorgeous day!! Hope to see you there!

  10. East Fishkill Fire District's 2nd annual Chili Cookoff Saturday, September 30th. It's $35 to enter a team, or $5 just to come eat and enjoy yourself. All the proceeds will be going to the Burn Center at Westchester Medical Center. If interested in entering a team, e-mail me (EMT1094@hotmail.com) for the specifics. It will be held at our fire training center on Route 52 in Hopewell Junction, NY. The teams will be serving their chili starting at noon. Trophies will be awarded around 5pm. We will also be running 2 raffles: 1. For a member who was hurt responding to a call and is now out of work - BBQ grill to be raffled off around Thanksgiving. $1 each or 6 for $5. 2. A teenager in the burn center who was burnt over 70% of his body. The family lives in Amsterdam and needs some help - 50/50 raffle to go off at the cook-off. $1 each or 6 for $5. We have about 20 to 25 teams coming this year! Please stop by, eat some chili, and have a good time!!

  13. In East Fishkill, we have a heavy rescue that carries most of our extrication equipment. We also have a Hurst with portable generator, cribbing, etc. on two engines - 1 in station one and I believe 1 in station three.

  16. well, the parade's been on the last thurs of july for at least the last 20 years or so...except for the 125th anniversary mardi-gras and dress parades years back.
