  1. "and no layoff clause through the end of the contract on December 31, 2014." it appears from the article that part of the stipulation for the give backs is a no layoff clause that last through the life of the contract.
  2. Yes this was a good solution to Deer Parks night time response time issues. My question is if you can't get an acceptable from home response at night, how bad is their day time response???
  3. Not to mention that the wonderful OPEC nations slowed production not once but twice, they were saying that it was costing more to produce then it was selling for on the open market.
  4. Cogs, Just because many communities do it does not mean it is legal under state law. Many things concerning volunteer fire depts fall between the cracks or aren't enforced because the job needs to be done and nobody has challenged it. I am not saying you are wrong but it is in the courts, lets let them decide whether it is legal or not. -298 BTW- Happy Holidays to you and yours also!!!
  5. From Huntington Manor's website: The Huntington Manor Fire Department is located at 1650 New York Avenue in Huntington Station, New York. It is in Suffolk County, Long Island approximately 32 miles east of New York City. Our Department is proud to protect the lives and property of over 14 square miles. We are one of the busiest volunteer fire departments on Long Island with an average of over 1000 fire calls (not EMS) per year. The Huntington Manor Fire Department operates within a 14.8 square mile perimeter. We have 14 pieces of fire apparatus, 12 utility vehicles and 4 chief's cars. We have a total of 130 members comprising of two 65 member companies. We respond out of 3 fire houses strategically located within the district. Our dispatcher is on duty 24-7 at our headquarters location. The only Depts on Long Island that have IAFF locals are Long beach L287, Garden City L1588(called Nassau County L1588), Dix Hills L3492(not sure what they do,they seem to just be housemen/dispatchers) and Melville Fire Employees Asso. L2843( Once again I don't believe they are actually firefighters, just district employees.) Both Long Beach and Garden city Firefighters attend the Westchester Career Fire Academy.
  6. In Nassau County you have Long Beach and Garden City.
  7. The IAFF has been involved with the MDA since 1954. Many locals are involved and have "Fill the Boot Drives", the monies collected allows the kids to attend the various summer camps. My local has been doing it for many years and this year we get to present the check during the telethon because we collected over $10,000.00. Which is quite an accomplishment for a 30 man local. Hope that answer some of your questions. Stay Safe -298
