Pleasantville VAC & Pleasantville FD are hosting a blood drive 12/28/2010 (today). The blood drive will be from 2:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Pleasantville FD located at 75 Washington Ave. ***ALL DONORS WILL RECEIVE 2 NEW YORK METS TICKETS*** I would be really great if we got a lot of donors. There is a real need for blood in our area. I will post the event flyer ASAP.

Walk-ins are more than welcomed. Just helped carry in the drinks, cookies, chips, etc. What could be better than helping out the community, getting two mets tickets, and enjoying a snack? Come on down 2:30 to 8:30!

The situation in NYC is pretty disgusting. It once again shows a city that is not prepared for some things. There are major cities around this country that experience this amount of snow frequently. Moral of the story is the tri-state area needs to learn how to properly remove snow and make streets as safe as hey can be during sh** weather

Now it is time for people to freak out like always. Go to the supermarket just in case you are trapped in your house for a month. People in Westchester and surrounding areas need to learn how to drive and deal with snow. You know, there are places that get hammered by snow frequently and people still get around and survive without having heart attacks.

I will keep him and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

It is quite simple actually. If you are driven and want to volunteer to help your community and protect life and property then you find time no matter how many jobs you work. For me being in two FD's and a VAC are such a part of my life and hold such a big place in my heart, I could not see a situation where I would not be able to do it. Perhaps if I work 5 jobs, I will not be able to do 600 calls a year but I will still do the most that I can. No matter how much it costs to live in Westchester or anywhere else, if you really want to volunteer you do what it take to work and volunteer. At least thats my thought...

Thornwood did get the new engine...its been out and about driver training and such. It is not in service yet though.

100% vounteer departments work in other counties in NY (some work in Westchester too...). Perhaps rather than pushing for more and more members, we should push for members who don't just join for the tax deduction... Departments do not need big numbers, they need big commitment. Telling people to stop by the fire house to inquire joining is funny. Most fire departments in this county do not have people hanging around throughout the day. Some don't even have people there when there is a call!

NYSP reporting all lanes are now shut down.<BR>00:43 - Rescue 3 advising Fairview HQ to contact Greenville because they have not responded to this scene and rescue 3 is establishing SBP command.<BR>00:43 - Fairview HQ advising SPB command that Greenville and Yonkers have 2 minute ETA. <BR><BR> EMS transporting traumatic arrest to WMC. YPD ESU onboard assisting with treatment. Truck enroute to WMC to pick up officers. Yonkers PD closing parkway northbound at Tuckahoe Road. All traffic being directed off at that exit. Traffic caught between Tuckahoe Road and the accident scene being turned around to exit at Tuckahoe. Victim pronounced at WMC-ER. State Police BCI and accident reconstruction unit responding for investigation.

Very cool system! It would be great if Westchester County would do something like this. It will be interesting to hear how this works out. If all goes smoothly it is a great resource.
