  1. The federal tax rate is the same, local taxes do not fund it. But cars and food cost the same, so rent is less, but what do you live near? Charleston rent is pricey unless you live in the Ghetto or in a remote area. The 1/3 salary rate is really kind of tough to deal with.

I live in Beaufort County, town of Port Royal. Some things are cheaper others aren't. Apartments here start from $500 and maxed out luxury apartments can be closer to $1000. That aside; Beaufort County lacks a full roster of EMS professionals working for them so the employees they do have it's not uncommon for up to two (2) overtime shifts per week. Some stations don't even do a call a day- easy money. That adds up to paychecks for most EMT's per period around 1200 Post Tax. EMT's and Paramedics aren't a dime a dozen (for lack of a better term) as I feel they are in New York. That's why most agencies in South Carolina have a hard time operating at full staffing levels.

  2. Coming from someone who used to live in the Hudson Valley and worked commercial i understand how that doesn't sound very appetizing. However what most people forget is the cost of living is substantially cheaper (my luxury 2bed 2 bath apartment w/ a fireplace and a screened in porch) is $700 a month. Gas is $2.87. It's a wash. But it's a tough concept to grasp for most people in the Hudson Valley. Construction is booming in the area here and jobs are plentiful.

  3. Beaufort County is an extremely busy county located in the southern tip of South Carolina. Beaufort County EMS is the sole provider of EMS throughout the county and has equipment based out of twelve stations throghout the county. Beaufort County is home to several well-known attractions such as Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Hilton Head Island and only 45 minutes from Savannah, GA. The county is home to 65,000 Active Duty Military personnel and is home to the Beaufort Naval Hospital which serves eligible constituents in the area. This is a very busy system with potential for growth and advancement alongside extreme diversity of call types.

  7. MLSS blows out Empress in pay starting out is 17.50+ at MLSS and 15.75 for Empress this is Medic rate. MLSS pays out of pocket for employee benefits and gives all employees 4 x 12 hour shifts so its guaranteed 8 hrs OT for fulltime workers. And MLSS is way more strick when it comes to professionalism and appearance /image then Empress. All this without a union.

I for one despise and loathe unions, so my opinion is biased and I'll stop with that. Theyre a bunch of mafia thugs who only push to sell their "product" which is a membership. They only care about themselves, gaining more members and how they can control and increase power. Employees should be given a choice whether or not to join a union when incoming to a company. I for one would cross the picket into work and punch in because the union isn't going to pay my bills.

    Source please?

  8. not really true...dc911 still dispatches HVP (care1ems) when plesant valley cant get out. and usually the kingston crew covers the call since we have been posting them in plesant valley on the weekends and over night during the week.

911 doesn't even bother with dispatching Empire/Regional/Hudson Valley Paramedics/Care One on the off hours because they know they dont post a truck in the valley during those times. I quote a manager from HVP "they get what they pay for". MLSS picks up all the slack nine times out of ten

  9. They did a name change it seems... to "Mobile Life"!

At leats that what it sounds like on the radio! LOL

:lol:   That's because PVFD doesn't pay for ALS after I believe 1800hrs, so Mobile Life jumps in for some fun, because Care1 doesnt keep a truck in that part of the county overnight.

  13. Does AMR have a CON for Northern Dutchess and Columbia County??? Private EMS is what? Is it a smaller commercial agency in Dutchess???

AMR does not have a CON for Dutchess County or Columbia, they do however have Rensaleer County. AMR has no presence currently in Hudson Valley, although they are very big around metro centers, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Long Island and are a very large company. That being said, the only way IN they have is to purchase a company and obtain their CON. HVREMSCO isn't giving out regional CON's, only municipal (ex. Beacon). It would certainly be interesting!! We'll have too see what the coming months bring!
