  1. Hey R3, I wouldn't hold my breath (as you know). We have been hearing about this for years. We all hope to stay in "The Big House", right where we are. It's old, and broken down - but we like it that way. The only way to really find out is when they start knocking it down around us ........ 8-[
  2. HFD, R-1 was on the inital assignment, not delayed.
  3. #-o HFD-Too much stuff !!
  4. It is the Haz-Mat.
  5. - Good to see WPFD Rescue, Nice rig. Anyone have any info on manning, in service date, the #88 assignment, or the history of a rescue Company in WP ?? -For that matter, any info on WPFD in general ?? ?-Engines, 3-Trucks(?) Manning on each piece? #personnel? Thanx.......
  6. - Mobile Command (Ex-NYC classroom) International
  7. [-X 801- It is NOT all ego. You may think you know, but comments like that cause the trouble. Everything is Good now.
  8. They wanted to shoot at Sta-1 again, but we were turned upside down the last time. It was a nice "honor" I guess, but a firehouse is a firehouse !! [-(
  9. I doubt it. FDNY came to get look at ours.
  10. The only Companies with LDH are E-312, and recently E-309. They both carry the 5" hose. All other Engine Companies use 3-1/2" supply line (2 3-1/2's to the hydrant).
  11. I missed it. Anyone know when it will be on again ??
  12. OC- Try here : http://nybfu.org/firepatroljobs.htm
  13. It's not My idea - this is what is going to happen (according to Spec Ops Chiefs WSConcept plan). The Squad is going to E-311, as a second piece. It will be mainly Haz-Mat/WMD to support R1. The plan calls for all the WC squads to get a new rig (like a med duty Rescue)- right now we are on step #2 with the issue of the HM trailers. The response will not change for 311, and R1 will keep our runs citywide. 311 will operate as an Engine Co. at a job, and we will still perform our VES functions. It is not a big deal to run the city, although yonkers is big, it never takes us more than 12-15 mins to get anywhere from sta-1. We also run the support co's (besides 11)- 307 & 310. This whole plan for WC depends on the funding !! It remains to be seen how dedicated the polititians are to it. As usual it depends on $$$$$$$$$$$.
  14. O.K., here's my take on this - being directly involved. I do not believe we are going with a 2nd Rescue Co. The main possibility is Squad-1(the second piece) of E-311. This is part of the "Westchester Squad concept". It is in the initial stages still, but I have seen the plan going back for a few years already. I am assigned to R-1, we respond from Sta-1, and do make good time and provide good coverage to the city as a whole. The wear and tear on the rig really means nothing. The rig is holding up well, but I am sure we will wear it out - just like any other of our rigs. We are on a 10-year replacement program and the fleet is looking good. Until we re-established R-1, it is kinda unheard of a city of our size to not have a rescue. It is also kinda unheard of a city our size to have two. On another note - I have worked aside YPD-ESU, and would any day. Since working together I believe we are giving the citizens top-notch protection. Hope this answers some ??'s from the inside.
  15. -Chicago Squads are their heavy Rescue Co.'s, they operate with 2 rigs. The first is a "chase rig" rescue type apparatus, and the second piece(link posted) is a 55' snorkel - it does not have a pump, it must be supplied by an Engine Co. They respond with both pieces on runs. Lettered as Squad-1, and snorkel as Squad-1a.
  16. Each house has their own tone, which sets off the "trailer"(series of Beeps) Basically it is a dial tone corresponding to the house #. For instance, Sta-1's tone is "0-1" on the phone, Sta-12 is "1-2"- and so forth. So an assignment for E-306,L-71,R-1,B-1 would get : 0-6 (for 306) 0-1 (71/R1) & 0-3 (B1).
  17. Does "Public Safety-5" have any Firefighting experience ? Is he from within the WPFD ? Just wondering ................
  18. Did WPFD go back to the County numbering system ?
  19. Yes - Last 2 Mayors are big on Residency.
  20. 1 class was hired off the other list, and a new one was called for( made it a 2-year list).
  21. This box at the Sugar House comes in every once in a while (I just had it a few weeks ago). a Huge wood 'shed' on the Hudson catches fire, due to a refining process. A couple duece and a halves usually takes care of it. More of a P-I-A$$ fire than anything.
  22. A sad loss for the Yonkers Fire Department, and the citizens of Yonkers indeed. Chief Kiernan was a highly respected and experienced Fireman, Officer and Chief as well as a true Gentleman. A finer man can not be found. We (YFD) are at a loss for words, and his passing truely caught us off guard. Chief Kiernan was instumental in getting us the high quality apparatus, tools, and training that we have today. I was friendly with him, and looked up to him to guide my career. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. He truely was the heart and soul of the YFD. I hope we can continue the path he has put us on, and make him proud ! We - and I ,will miss him Greatly !! Rest in Peace Brother & Chief. - We Love Ya'.....
  23. -The plans for the Museum are at a crawl to say the least. -The Sutphens fell apart, and were POS (second only to the Continentals) -R1 is holding up well, It's a bit banged up - we run it pretty hard citywide. We have so many tools on it, we quicky outgrew the rig. -The old 58' Rescue was nice, although very underpowered for the hills of Yonkers (as told by the Oldtimers). -The Foam rig will be as is (as far as I know) for now. -14,11,3 and L74 will be replaced also in the next few years, and then around the cycle again. (usually every 10-years) ..Hope this answers your ??'s 8)
  24. R3 - 306 is getting replaced by the 2004 ALF (not in service yet). 306's Mack CF (swapped out with 314 early on) and 311's Mack CF (Ex-313) were the last 2 Mack CF 'Pumper' chassis produced. There is a good book containing this info called "Last of the Breed" by Harvey Eckhart. Hope this helps...
  25. 6-Engine is spec'd as the rest with some minor changes. All the new rigs are spec'd out Very Well by the DC in charge of that. We are quite impressed with the caliber of rigs we are receiving the last few years! 303 is running a 1990 Mack (old 307) which was refurbed last year. 311 is running a 1993 Mack (old 313) also refurbed. besides 11 & 3 ,314's 1994 Sutphen is not in good shape. The other 2 Sutphen's (ex-303, Ex-311)are reserve Engines now. We didn't have much luck with them. The old 306 will become a reserve rig. Hopes are to one day put it in the museum, as it was the last Mack CF Engine built.
