  3. Sorry for posting these almost 2 weeks late, been busy lately ! Anyway, these photos are from a well involved house fire in Hillcrest at 12 Doe Drive on April 15th. Mutual Aid was called from Tallman & Thiells to the scene. There were 7 residents home at the time of the fire and all escaped without injuries. More photos can be viewed on my website: http://www.BrianDuddy.com/g/H041508 http://www.BrianDuddy.com/g/H041508

  7. The Journal News has not paid for "Stringer" photos for some time now. The expect us to give them our photos for free by uploading them to their website. I have asked all my buffs in Rockland who go to fire scenes as a courtesy NOT to submit photos to them in protest of this new B.S. policy. If I get up at 3 AM to go and shoot a fire and spend my hard earned money on gas and lose a few hours sleep, I shouldn't be compensated by a newspaper that makes $ ? Unreal ! The problem with some photographers is that they live to see their photos published so they will give their photos for free to anyone who will publish them. I could give two ***** about being published. Sure, it's nice, but you see the same Photographers photos in Firehouse type magazines all year, and they aren't the greatest photographers either.
  8. Keith is a great photographer. He & his friend Tom produced a book which is for sale on the internet.

  11. Model looks real good ! Just a short train ride from Manhattan’s Grand Central Station is the city of Yonkers, New York where I was able to visit the Headquarters of the Yonkers Fire Department. Both the Commissioner and Chief were impressed with the finished model of Engine 306. The guys at Fire Station 6 were equally excited to see Engine 306 in miniature and proudly drove the Engine out of the house for pictures. Fire Station 6, which houses Engine 306, was built in 1901, located at 81 Oak Street and is the home to Engine Company 306, a 2004 American La France 1000gpm pumper with a 500-gallon tank. It is powered by a Detroit Diesel series 60, 470 HP engine and an Allison 4000 PR EVS transmission With 80% new tooling this is the first of many new tools you will see this year. Though there are some elements from existing tooling this is a distinct new model for your collection. This beautiful American LaFrance Pumper has been created with great attention to detail and it is one not to miss. Those who have previewed the Yonkers model have all indicated a quick sell out on this introduction. - John H. Dunkel YONKERS ENGINE 306 is a 2004 American La France 1000gpm pumper with a 500-gallon tank. It is powered by a Detroit Diesel series 60, 470 HP engine and a Allison 4000 PR EVS transmission. Engine 306 is headquartered in Fire Station 6 built in 1901, located at 81 Oak Street. The station is manned by a Captain (the house commander), a split Captain which rotates thru multiple firehouses, three Lieutenants and seventeen firefighters. The crew consists of one officer and three firefighters per tour. Engine 306 has been the busiest Engine Company in Yonkers since the 80’s. The working fires of record has shown that this company as the busiest engine in the city and 6th in national surveys thru out the United States. Its area is a mixture of commercial property, high rise apartments, wood frame tenements and single family structures. Station 6 was to celebrate its 100th anniversary in September 2001, however due to the events of September 11th, this was postponed until September 2002. This apparatus is dedicated in the Memory of Deputy Chief Chris Kiernan. This company was in Chris’s blood, having served much of is career there as a firefighter, Lieutenant and Captain prior being promoted to Assistant Chief. As Deputy Chief in charge of the Suppression Office, he was instrumental in bringing back the Federal Q sirens and bells on all the Yonkers apparatus. His strong belief was to get the best equipment for the firefighters and the citizens that Yonkers protects. Chris passed away suddenly in February 2004 before seeing this apparatus placed in service. The issuance of this unit by Code 3 has a special meaning for the members, family and friends of both Chris (Car 4) and the Yonkers Fire Department.
  12. If you have never been to the show, it's well worth it. No only is there an apparatus shoot, but there is also a flea market and some really great shows by some incredible photographers [including myself]. This year we are making it a BUFF WEEKEND. The Photo Night will be Saturday with our annual FDNY Bus Trip to NYC on Sunday. Trying to get out of towners to come out for a great buff weekend ! If ya don't feel like going on the FDNY bus trip, you can always come up to the Rockland County Fire Museum for our 7th annual expo. Many antique & frontline apparatus will be on display from the NY/NJ/CT area, as well as live demos for the burn building, extrication, hazmat, technical rescue team, etc. Photos from last years Expo can be viewed on my website: http://www.brianduddy.com/g/expo2007

  14. Congrats, well deserved ! I always enjoy seeing your posts about classic fires. Besides being a fire buff, I am a also a history buff. It's amazing what photos people have in their collection and the info you can find on the internet nowadays ! The History section of my website [RocklandFires.com] is definitely my favorite. Here is a recent research project I did. Always working on new ones ! A very historical fire in Nyack was the American Aniline factory explosion on January 31st, 1919. The factory was located at the corner of Cedar Hill Ave & Railroad Avenue. Here is a partial article from the New York Times on February 1st, 1919. Link to the entire article: http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/...FB4668382609EDE What is Aniline ? From: The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition | Date: 2007 aniline , C 6 H 5 NH 2 , colorless, oily, basic liquid organic compound; chemically, a primary aromatic amine whose molecule is formed by replacing one hydrogen atom of a benzene molecule with an amino group . Aniline boils at 184°C and melts at -6°C. It is of great importance in the dye industry, being used as the starting substance in the manufacture of many dyes—e.g., indigo—and as an aid in the manufacture of others. For this reason many dyes have the word aniline in their common name, such as aniline black (one of the best black dyes known), aniline red, yellow, blue, purple, orange, green, and others. Today these synthetic dyes have largely replaced the natural ones. Aniline is prepared commercially by the reduction of nitrobenzene, a product of coal tar, or by heating chlorobenzene with ammonia in the presence of a copper catalyst. Sulfonation of aniline yields sulfanilic acid, the parent compound of the sulfa drugs. Aniline is also important in the manufacture of rubber-processing chemicals and antioxidants .

  17. I wouldn't give the Journal News another 1 of my photos if they got on the ground and kissed my feet. The nerve of them not paying freelancers anymore. They expect people to submit photos to them for free. What has this world come to ?

  23. Valley Cottage's new ALF has been delivered and has been designated 22-99. The district doesn't officially own it yet, so don't bother stopping at the firehouse and asking them to pull it out for a photo shoot, because they can't. Might be another week or 2. I only got to shoot it because I was there when it was delivered ! I did get them to pull out the 1975 ALF for a side by side shot ! All images can be viewed on my website: http://www.brianduddy.com/g/valley_cottage Video of 22-99 arriving @ 22-100: Video of 22-99 backing into 22-100 for the 1st time:
