  1. If a department cannot "mess" with a persons service award points, how do you explain disciplinary suspension?
  2. I think that before you take to the keyboard you should get the facts. You make quite a serious allegation of your department being influenced by an outside source, do you know this to be true? Question these types of things in house before going to the all mighty internet. Now as far as the policy, good job! They are kids in school. Schooling is required for a job, a job is required to feed a family. I don't think my volunteer department had ever bought dinner for my kids.
  3. WCPD did a presentation a few years back with the aviation unit for my department. Short answer is yes, but I would arrange a meeting with the division to get the criteria and procedures.
  4. It's a matter of want vs. need. If there aren't any buildings in your district over 2 stories you may not need a 110 foot tower ladder, but you want it! Practicality is the answer. Seth originally asked if a department who pieced together a $1 beater should replace it with a new one for $400,000. I ask why? Can you justify a $400,000 purchase? Ask yourself if the equipment on this rig can be moved to another. Can we downsize the rig? Can we go pre-owned? Do we even need it? All things that need to be considered when replacing any vehicle.
  5. Windex then race glaze.
  6. The sad truth is you are right. Career or volunteer, we all need to step back and look at ourselves. Are we actually prepared for the worst case scenario? Thankfully this time there was no loss of life, but I fear the next time. I send my wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured fire fighters. Thank god you guys are still with us. Stay safe
  7. Kevin was a great fire fighter, a great mentor and an all around great man. His passing is a loss for the entire community he served. Kevin always had a smile and a kind word. He worked hard to provide for his family and would give anything to help someone in need. I'm going to miss you Kevin. Go easy brother.
  8. Thanks for posting rob. I saw this the other day.
  9. Straps get in the way too much. I don't even use one for FD. I used to use a universal radio holster with a swivel in the buff belt days. Now I clip the radio on the back of my left hip and the mic on my left shoulder. Stays out of the way and doesn't interfere with seatbelts in either seat. I think I have a holster around somewhere if you need one. Send me a pm if you're interested.
  10. I'm not really looking to have a discussion but if one insues, so be it. I have noticed in a few threads recently that some people aren't able to take criticism or jest very well anymore. I would like to take this opportunity to bring back an acronym that was used by many on this site. Q.T.I.P. Quit taking it personal. Guess what kids, this is the emergency service. You are posting on a forum that is dedicated to us. If you say something out of line or just plain stupid, you will get your various parts busted. That's just how it works. Thanks for your time guys and gals. As always, stay safe. Wisker P.s. If you are going to be a keyboard tough guy, sign your name.
  11. Send that one to firefighter close calls moose. Gotta be careful these days. From what I'm gathering in your post she seems like she will fit into the FD well.
  12. Always worth it. Can't get called if you don't test.
  13. There are four that come to mind right away, however, I do not wish to list them on the forum. I am not a fan of bad mouthing departments on this page. I trust you understand and support my decision to keep them anonymous.
  14. Only reason I chimed in mike is because I said in another thread that if a parade thread was started I would be right along side another forum member bashing parades. I am a man of my word. And you are right, nothing has been done to ensure proper coverage during a parade.
  15. My biggest problem with parades is that they become the focal point of the department. Come home without a best overall and it's nothing but bitching and finger pointing. The alcohol? Big problem! Some guys just can't hold their booze. The beer starts flowing and the beer muscles grow. No time for crap like that. They also strip the district of manpower. I remember the Lake george parade a few years ago, there were several departments that couldn't get out for their alarms the entire weekend. I also remember running calls that weekend with myself, two other interior members and a driver. No officers or other interior guys around. Want to have fun in the fire service? Train together or bring back soft ball.
  16. A parade is no the issue here. The issue is that two people who happen to be volunteers made a private issue a public issue that now involves the department. It is about immaturity, not shining brass to walk down the street. As I said, I hate parades too. If you would like, start a thread about your opinion on parades and I will be right next to you bashing them. This is not the thread for it. Stay safe guys and girls.
  17. My brass is always parade ready. Never know when you need it.
  18. My reading isn't a problem here nor is it the question at hand. Let me explain. What does a parade have to do with anything? The only place a parade comes into play is a parade being the location of the climax of an incident. This has apparently been a problem that started at the station some time before this parade or this person even becoming a chief. Three posts you made in one day all had to do with parades. If some volunteer department burned you I apologize but they are not the root of all evil. I personally am not a fan of parades and personally feel they no longer serve a purpose but You seem to have a personal vendetta against them. In this case the parade is not the issue.
  19. Ah, I see. You did not specify in your other post. Can you give examples? I'm not saying you're wrong or trying to argue with you. Just interested.
  20. I worked with MLSS as a volunteer in dutchess county and found their crews to be outstanding. Never a single issue with them.
  21. *paralized. *their. If you are going to be so negative in all of your posts please use proper spelling.
  22. Parades don't start for a few more months.
