  1. Do what you have to do to protect the kids. I would have done the same thing. God I love this country!
  2. Recert... Never hurts to "re-learn" Good luck!
  3. This is a perfect example of ethics in EMS. I have always felt strongly that you should respect the religious and cultural beliefs of others but preservation of life always comes first.
  4. If that is truely the reason than yes. The worst thing that you can do as we have all stated here is lie about it. I hope everything works out for you.
  5. You could try and estimate the dates, just state that you don't remember the exact dates and that you are not on good terms with the bosses. Biggest thing is to be honest about it. If you didn't put them down because you aren't on good terms than say that. Thats just my opinion.
  6. I would have to agree with Jack on this one. The best thing to do is be honest. With that being said, why didn't you include the off the books jobs? Just give them the reason and hope for the best. Good Luck.
  7. Happy and healthy New Year to all. To all our brothers and sisters on tonight, stay safe.
  8. a few years back... captian-"xx11 to xx13 what is your location?" me-"Front seat directly behind the steering wheel k"
  9. Merry christmas T-mac. And to all my brothers and sisters out there tonight, stay safe and god bless.
  10. Thank you to all who have sent items for Christopher. May you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
  11. What a touching story. God bless those brothers and sisters who were able to get this done. I actually sat here and cryed as I read the story and watched the video. We really do come together and do this job for all the right reasons don't we? Well done! The McGetrick family is in my prayers. May Kyle watch over them.
  12. Hey gang, Just wanted to thank all of you again for showing Christopher your support. It is posts like this that show how large our family really is. Sure we may fight and annoy each other from time to time but we are here when it counts. Christopher was very pleased to see that all of his heros were supporting him and wishing him well for the holidays. You have all touched his heart in a way you couldn't imagine. Kimberly, Christophers mother, is also thankful for all of your support. Withour all of you this holiday season would have been almost impossible. Christopher will be undergoing his first of many surgeries on January 3rd. He will spend an estimated three days in the Boston Childrens Hospital and be discharged to his home. Christopher has a long road ahead of him and your kind words may be the only thing to help him through so PLEASE keep sending them. This is a young man who truely idolizes all of us. We are hoping to have a "welcome home" type party for Christopher as soon as he is feeling up to it. I will be posting the date, time and place on here with an open invitation to any of you that would like to come by and speak to this remarkable young man in person. Again, Thnak You everyone for all you have done. May god bless all of you and please, have a happy and safe holiday and a prosperous new year Pat Wisker Ex-Lieutenant Cortlandt EMS/ Montrose FD
  13. I have to agree with you on this Seth. An AFA at a commercial building could prove to be valuable training time, after all, we are always learning in this field. As far as the excuse of wanting to get back home or like you said, taking time out of our "busy lives", don't go in the first place! I have always been in the mindset that if I am rolling out with the rig, I have HOURS of time for this. The worst call you will ever go on is the next. I figure that if you are there anyways and have nothing else to do than why not try and learn something. Great topic!
  14. I don't see this becoming a "paid vs. vollie" thread, It is a thread about rescue companies, so lets not make it one. It is true that a career rescue company will train more than a vollie dept. because that is their job. They are a rescue company. They also have the time to train more seeing as they are paid to be at the station, and as a vollie, I am paid to be at my office. The question I have is this, is there a "true" volunteer rescue company in westchester or are the department member cross trained as they are in my vollie department?
  15. Good find bro. Kudos to Santa on a job well done, even without his ANSI approved vest Reminds me of an incident a few years ago, my FD was doing our santa run and stopped at an MVA, my Father dressed as santa started directing traffic and wishing a Merry Christmas to passing motorists as the yelled about the road being closed.
  16. Any donations of patches or shirts can actually be sent to me. Thank you for the wonderful thought! Just so you guys know, I have just sat with Christopher and read your posts to him. He and his family are over joyed with your responce. All of your kind words have helped greatly! THank you all! Feel free to contact me at: wisker.pat@gmail.com or on my cell 914-373-8489. Thanks again gand and God Bless you all!
  17. Hello Everyone. After an overwhelming amount of E-mails and phone calls from some of the members here I have decided to let you all know here how Christopher is doing. He leaves the first week of January for his first surgery and will return home a few days after. His spirits are high right now as he has just returned from doing a candy cane run with HFD riding in "THE BEAST" (HFD, you guys are great and I can't say enough about you! THANKS!). Christopher has always been a HUGE fan of the fire service. I think the entire point of this post is this... I would like to ask if you guys could take a few minutes out of your day as this holiday season rappidly approches and write an e-mail or send a quick card showing Christopher how much everyone supports him. This entire ordeal has been very tough for him seeing as he is confined to a wheelchair and cannot do what all the other kids his age are doing. He has been putting up a good front for everyone saying that he is ok and he is happy but we can see the truth in his eyes. The kind words from all of you in the photo thread I posted from his birthday made his day! What do you say guys and gals? Can we help this brave little soldier stay strong? I thank you all in advance. E-mails can be sent to: wisker.pat@gmail.com Cards, letters other items can be sent to: Christopher c/o P. Wisker 66 Trolley Rd. Montrose NY, 10548 Thanks again everyone! and to all who wished well in the other thread, Thank you from Christopher and his family!
  18. Just a quick thank yo to those who have already responded! I still need about 40 patches for my project for Christopher. Anyone who can help please contact me. Thanks again!
  19. My father (a police captian) said the same thing... not much space. The newer ones (2011 when the body was changed) have more space than the previous years. The chrysler corp, or should i say FIAT, have done some great things with all the cars for the 2011 year and up. The charger has gone under the most renovation especially the police version. (I sell chrysler dodge jeep and ram so I have been able to see these first hand and think they are much better now than the ford or chevy.)
  20. Congrats to all the grads! Stay safe and serve with pride!
  21. The dodge charger seems to have faded out. Thought that was going to take off pretty well but havn't seen any of the new ones around here.
  22. That is one of my biggest pet peeves! Sunglasses are NOT part of a dress uniform!
  23. One more thing gang... Can anyone send me some patches for a collection for him??? Thanks!
  24. So HFD did it again! They contacted Christophers mother and had her bring Christopher to the station today. He spent the entire day riding the jump seat of "THE BEAST" during their candy cane run! Thanks HFD for another memorable day for my little buddy! You guys TRULY bring the fire service to the next level! God bless all of you! PS... Trying to get some pictures to post and thanks to all of you for the PMs and posts wishing well for Christopher. I will keep you all posted on his journey as he goes in for surgery in the following weeks.
  25. Here we are once again. That wonderful time of the year where we exchange gifts, have huge meals, some good laughs with family and friends and wait for a jolly old fat man to shimmy down a chimney. Speaking of that red suited product of Hallmark, any departments in northern westchester or putnam have a candy cane run set up this year? If so, what department and if possible, post the schedule please. Thanks in advance and please, STAY SAFE this holiday season! Remember, it's always great when Santa comes, but it's better when Mommy and Daddy made it home too...
