  1. I may be mistaken, but I don't think they roll with just one person, unless it is a confirmed ALS call in which they can guarantee that the medic will be riding it in.
  2. With the invention of the saying, "do more with less" and the rescue engine, many departments said, "why not bring the protection and tools on one rig". Should they be separate, absolutely. But with cuts to manpower, or it just not showing up at all, this is what the end result has been. I have been on many calls where you pull the tools off the bumper, the hose off the crosslay, and hope the positioning is right so it blocks traffic.
  3. Thanks for the valuable input....and the caps lock is not necessary. Whether they could drive themselves to the hospital or not, they still called, so we have to show up. Until they stop calling, we still have to go.
  4. Oh well I know that , and im sure you could have a lot more fun with a beer truck But for the sake of staying on topic......
  5. The similarities between a beer truck carrying beer, and an ambulance carrying thousands of dollars worth of equipment, possibly people, and drugs? I'm sorry but I have no idea where you are going with this comment.
  6. Because to answer his question, you first have to admit there is a problem. Getting people to do that....You may having better luck finding a pot of gold.
  7. I still think its hilarious when you see an ambulance with "volunteer fire association VAC" on the side and two paid Empress EMT's get out.
  8. They did that a loooooong time ago.
  9. Ahhh, well that makes more sense. And I don't think that's overkill for an AFA, Mohegan sends 2 engines and a ladder, Peekskill, 2 engines, a tower ladder, and the rescue. Just going off what I know.
  10. I'm sorry for saying this, but was that english?
  11. The first step in the right direction would be to dissolve the village. The Town of Cortlandt surrounds it on 3 sides, and its not like there would be a huge amount of new property to deal with. The village has its own PD, public services, DPW, etc. With the ToC covering a much larger area, I can't see the addition of 1 square mile to be an issue. But everyone(politicians included) needs their kingdom.
  12. Correct. Anyone from the outside says it makes sense. Anyone from within, it's blasphemy!
  13. I take back what I said, yes it is an FAA requirement, but I have been on the ramp of many terminals, and I can say with confidence, that the only two people paying attention are the Line Marshaller, and the chock guy just to make sure he is out of the way. The wing walkers are most of the time, A: not there, or B: sitting on the baggage equipment. It's the same way with when your backing an apparatus, if you can't see them, stop, until you can. This was a pretty obvious wingstrike. Do you think a (competent)wingwalker was there? Kinda hard to miss a big yellow firetruck.
  14. Planes don't have wing walkers on the way into a gate unless under tow.
  15. Much like what FF398 and ENG58 said, the apparatus committees that don't have these issues actually do some work(gasp!), and make sure things like this don't happen. Sounds like its time for some new members on that committee.
  16. He was not home at the time according to the article. He drove home, and got out of his car. But here's the better question. I know in the department I used to be with, we would relay to dispatch that the scene was "caution taped off", and it would be written in the narrative section of our documentation. This written information no longer holds up in court?
  17. Well he's being charged with something: (lohud)http://www.lohud.com/article/20111108/NEWS03/111080347/Fired-county-worker-freed-after-protest-stunt-Tappan-Zee?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Frontpage
  18. Not to mention, Matt's anniversary of his death was yesterday...
  19. I'd say bring that barrier thing out, and just split the bridge 3 lanes in both directions, and have the 7th lane for the pd cars and rigs. No impeding in traffic.
  20. True, it seems lower on the video. On a side note, I've done cliff dives from 75 feet, it only hurts a little.(cut it!)
  21. he seems low, cut the line, and pick him up in the water.
  22. I know of a few people that passed and are in the 800's
  23. Yeah, would have liked to do better. Life goes on. I just hope the dept that I have residency in hires off the local list.
