  1. Awesome! A great shot of a great rig!
  2. I heard the same rumor around a year ago from an FDNY firefighter and that they were planning on testing it out sometime this year. Anyone know now if they will switch to 2" or stay with 1 3/4"?

  5. Great piece of history! Thanks for sharing. For anyone who's interested, here are the current WPFD Fire Station assignments. 6. Is New Rochelle FD dispatched by 60 Control?
  7. I believe they use buses like this out in Jersey with the UASI program. I think both Newark and Jersey City have similar ones.
  8. Wow, fantastic job with all that info and history, Izzy! As far as I know, the rearmount Seagrave and the mid-mount ALF you mentioned are still at the graveyard in the parking lot at the New Haven Fire Academy, along with a former Emergency Unit on the training grounds. I heard somewhere something about a possible crane coming out of the Seagrave tractor of the former Truck 2A, similar to Norwalk's. We shall see.
  9. Today is the last day for applications to be turned in, no later than 4 p.m.(from a GFD member).
  10. I just had a live burn a month or so ago at New Haven and the tractor for either Truck 2A or 4A was sitting next to the shops. Do you know if there's still an apparatus boneyard behind Dixwell?
  11. Another thing about Dixwell station was for a while, Truck 4, Truck 2A(Reserve), and Truck 4A(Reserve), all TDA's, were all housed there. Three tillers in the same firehouse at the same time was really something to see. Wish I had a picture of that.
  12. Three years ago today, on July 24th, 2010, the Bridgeport, CT Fire Department lost two brothers, Lt. Steven Velasquez and Firefighter Michel Baik, both of BFD Ladder Co. 11. Both men died while operating at a house fire on Elmwood Ave. on the West Side of the city. http://www.ctpost.com/news/article/Two-firefighters-live-on-in-memory-4683975.php Rest in peace Lt. Velasquez and FF. Baik. Forever in our hearts. Radio Audio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7EvIUOoSOQ
  13. Here's a shot of the "Rescue" running out of Dixwell. I believe it was a reincarnation of the first "Emergency Unit" out of Engine 12's quarters, prior to the EMS units that followed. Prior to Dixwell being built, Engine 6 and Truck 4 were quartered at 384 Dixwell Ave. together. Engine 3 was quartered at 338 Elm St.

  22. Congratulations, Chief Dunn!
  23. Nobody throws ladders like Boston Fire, whether they are ground or aerial. I feel they set a great example of a task that should be done at every fire scene in multitude. By not only providing the obvious means of egress and rescue at every exit point, putting up as many ladders as possible makes everything else on the fireground go smoother, as far as I can tell. You can get more Truck Co. guys to the roof or to windows to ventilate, you can allow for more VES opportunities, and with more ground ladders up, you can get into many places aerial ladders can't, a huge plus for Boston with it's tight streets, alleyways, double-parked cars, and old frame buildings built close together. If the Truck Co. does it's job smoother and faster, it makes it that much easier for the Enginemen to advance lines and get water on the fire. I remember a retired FDNY Engine Co. Capt. saying that you always knew if the Truck Co. was doing their job if, when you were crawling down a smoke filled hallway on your stomach under the intense heat and smoke, trying to get advance a line inch by inch in tough, snotty conditions, you suddenly felt the heat and smoke lift and escape and you could go on stretching faster and easier.
  24. A very poignant episode and one of my personal favorites! I believe it was really one of the first TV episodes to really delve into the tragedy of a Line of Duty Deaths, fire or police-related. Adam-12 has got to be the most realistic police-related show ever made, at least in my opinion. I myself have this episode, along with the entire series of Adam-12 on DVD, as well as Emergency!. I must say that Jack Webb, the creator of Adam-12 and Emergency!, and the famed LAPD Sgt. Joe Friday on Dragnet of the '50's and '60's did an outstanding job overall for his time at portraying realism regarding emergency services, giving the public a first hand look at how life in the fire service or police force really is. He showed the world, really for the first time, what these brave men and women go through on a daily basis, however with no unnecessary added drama like you see today, "just the facts" as Sgt. Friday would say.
