  1. Rumor is that Yonkers Battalion Chiefs - who come along with the 1 & 1 (a Battalion 3 is sometimes placed into service back in YO) - like taking over operations/command at the fire scene. When you don't play nice in somebody else's sandbox they don't have to invite you back to play...
  2. Sounds like Yonkers Dispatch is back online.

  5. 30A15 went out on an FD smoke in the structure call. 60-Control didn't assign him, and he said he would landline 60. Anybody know what's up with this?
  6. Water coming from Croton Aqueduct. Yonkers OEM on scene at 13:50 hrs, requesting American Red Cross for up to 200 displaced residents. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2015/03/11/high-rises-evacuated-after-mudslide-in-yonkers/

  8. From my understanding, the bus was requested in order to provide temporary shelter for the evacuated (later displaced) residents of 371 South Broadway (the 4-story/48-unit apartment building next to the fire building). I don't know whether it was OEM, FD, or PD who made the request. Once the Red Cross with OEM set up a Reception Center at a nearby church, the Bee-Line bus was released after a few hours of service and cleared the scene. I'm sure the bus could also have been used for firefighters, but I only saw it being utilized by a dozen or so civilians. I could be mistaken, so feel free to correct me if that's the case.
  9. Great! So now the ETA to get off the ground won't be 45 minutes anymore? Oh, wait...

  11. No, and no. Although, it's not uncommon for school to have CPR training offered one day a year for their staff. I know the American Red Cross has recently come out with a fantastic program for faculty as well as students with the cost in mind.

  17. Well, are they?
  18. If you are looking to make an impact on your local and greater community through volunteer emergency/disaster programs, you may be disappointed by the MRC. They are rarely, if ever, activated, and are not that generally active. But, it doesn't hurt to join them anyway. That also goes for WEVR as well. I'm not (yet) a MRC member, but I know people who are in it. If you still live in Mount Vernon, you may be interested in their Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) or Auxiliary Police program. Feel free to contact me privately if you have any questions.
