  1. As will I my friend! Im hugging myself right now as a matter of fact, let me switch back to the OTHER website Im looking at lol
  2. I have to agree on the point made regarding memorial masses and other events where theres no beer or trophies (there beer at more events than you think lol). BUT I do have to say that some people, including myself, like parades and thats "our" thing. Everyone doesnt have to like it but thats no reason put it down. When you go to funerals and memorial events and the only people there are 90 and have nothing better to do or are the "working tour" thats sad! I hope the people who think "everyone else will go, I can stay home" dont want a big turnout at their funeral, not to be spiteful, but people remember who goes and dont go to these events and they dont forget ;-)
  3. LOL The HUGGING has begun! Love you too!
  4. What did I miss? I went out to dinner in Pleasantville and return find a thread pulled on THIS topic? lol I have to agree with Seth, as I've said before, being on both sides of this "fight" its rediculous! We are trully in these professions to save lives/property etc. I'll admit, I posted a response the other day a little quickly instead of thinking about it then posting a more "constructive" post! I think that some posts are deliberate to point fingers at cops or firefighters and to "stir the pot". Instead of learning from incidents and moving on, we all tend to let our egos get in the way. I think if WE are going to pick apart any incident, we should have either been there or have first hand knowledge of all the facts. When we go out on a limb and make assumptions, thats when the threads get locked down! Not all cops are FF so they don't know everything, same goes the opposite way. But thats what I get this whole boards purpose to be, to learn from eachother and hope that we all can do it better the next time, OR, pat eachother on the back for a job well done and share what we did right. Not every incident has something wrong with it and we dont need to only learn from mistakes! So I propose, tomorrow, if youre a firefighter then hug a cop, if youre a cop, then hug a firefighter! Lets make it the national "National EMTBRAVO Can't we all just get along" day! Ok, so I dont expect anyone to hug someone, but lets ALL put an effort into getting along and learning to better serve the public! <<<Stepping off soapbox and waiting to see responses>>> let em roll!
  5. Does anyone know if there's a festival after the parade and is the firehouse done?? Its Friday 8/10 at 7 right?

  8. Construction workers rescue man, 72, who drove into pond By JORGE FITZ-GIBBON THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original publication: August 2, 2007) RYE - Two construction workers leapt into action and pulled a 72-year-old local man to safety yesterday after he accidentally drove his station wagon into a pond. Workers Danilo Villafuerte and Juliano Morales were finishing their lunch about 12:30 p.m. when architect Allan Anderson raced past them and into the pond behind his Mead Pond Lane home. "They came to my rescue," Anderson said. "I was not harmed a hair on my body, thanks to these two guys. What can I say? It was noble of them." Villafuerte and Morales, both of Peekskill, said they simply reacted as anyone else would. "When we saw what happened we just jumped in," said Villafuerte, an Ecuadorean immigrant. "We're not heroes. But you have to try to save the man's life." The workers were finishing their lunch of chicken cutlets when Anderson parked in his driveway. But then the car lunged forward, knocking down a wood fence and a foot-high wall. The silver Volvo then plunged into Mead Pond while a panicked Anderson yelled for help. Gary Furfaro, a foreman for Peekskill-based Four Men Construction, which was doing work at Anderson's house, witnessed the midday mishap. "It seemed like he got his foot stuck on the accelerator or something," Furfaro said. "And as he went off the wall, he was yelling for help. I turned to call 911, and my guys were shoes off and in the pond in no time." Villafuerte and Morales said they first had to reassure Anderson that they would get him to safety. "The water was starting to come in," said Morales, a native of Guatemala. "He was afraid to come out. I told him: 'Don't worry. You're going to be fine. We're good at this. We're the best there is at this.'" By the time police and firefighters arrived, Anderson was out of the water - rattled but safe. "I want to say they are first-class people," Anderson said of his rescuers, whom he said he's known for years. "I was just very grateful for their help." The car was not entirely submerged in the pond, with the water rising just above the windows. But Keith Greene, an architect at the firm Anderson LaRocca Anderson, said Anderson would have been unable to get out because of recent ailments that limited his movement. In fact, Four Men Construction was putting in a walkway so Anderson could bypass the front steps to the home he and his wife built in the early 1970s. "They saved his life," Greene said. "He was probably just very frightened and confused, probably in a state of shock. They saved his life because he could not have gotten out of there by himself." The Andersons are both partners in the firm. "They're a fixture in the community," Greene said. "He's volunteered his time and designed the Rye Y, among other things." But Anderson remains tough as nails: He asked to be let out of the ambulance down the road, got into his wife's car and drove to a doctor's appointment. "I was in the ambulance," Anderson said. "I got out. So be it."And although Villafuerte and Morales said they never did finish their lunch - and Villafuerte's paycheck was soaked - they said they had no regrets. "Any time, anywhere," a soggy Morales said. "If we can do it again, we will." Now doesnt this just sum up the whole topic!!!
  9. I actually put in two people for review, one elderly and one plain stupid. The form states right on it that age cannot be the only factor for putting them in for review. The one who wasnt elderly didnt show up and they suspended his license. The system works, I think we need to use it more.
  10. I agree that its there, and yes, I do become complacent at times (not on traffic stops lol) so I dont want to make it out like im mr perfect. But, if you put an effort into it it may save your life for that day!
  11. I disagree. All I do is traffic stops and I don't allow myself to get complacent. Police, Fire, EMS etc need to do everything they can to NOT get complacent, if we all put an effort into that we'd be fine.
  12. 100% Agree with that. We have a rule, one beer and you can't drive. So our drivers have soda or water and there's no problem.
  13. I think it is paramount to call out each and every stop. Your last transmission/breath maybe 10-13, then where are you? No one knows where you are or what youre doing. As far as a busy radio, there's always time for officers safety, relying on your car computer to run the plate is fine, dispatchers dont always run it. I run it, stop it, call it out, wait for NYSPIN response on my computer then approach. I dont want to be "that guy" youre all watching on tv or talking about in a forum because I didnt call something out and bled out while they looked for me. One, two, three, old or young people in the car shouldn't matter. We should be treating each traffic stop as "high risk", theyre no longer "routine". Im tired of escorting cop funerals, the ones where it could have been avoided are even worse! You never know what the person just did or is intending to do, the broken taillamp is the least of their worries when theyre going to or already did kill someone or have a suicide by cop mentalitly. Thats my two cents.
  14. The biggest problem I see is the abuse by non responsible personell. We are all adults and can easily police ourselves. There's no reason to make EVERYONE pay for a few people who can't get the basic concept of if youre drinking don't get on the truck, dont even go to a fire. Chastise the people who abuse it and need their hand held, dont make the responsible people, who like to have a beer during down time and stay sitting there when the bell rings, suffer. Its nice to have a "hall" at your disposal for private parties as well. Its time the alcoholics find somewhere else to drink, that I can agree with is an OLD tradition and it looks like hell. A few social drinks isnt a problem and shouldnt be made out to be. Let the replies fly! lol
  15. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19313867/ Check out this link. I can understand that people want to make a buck, but doing it this way is just scummy! I don't know whats worse, ex cops becoming defense attornys or this guy!!
  16. Just a reminder to slow when approaching an intersection and never assume everyone sees you! WARNING!!! the site may have banners offensive to some, open in the privace of your own home http://www.consumptionjunction.com/content...1&Type=1&Page=1
  17. Anyone know the credentials needed to be a Fire Instructor? I have IDS through DCJS already. Looking to see what else is needed. Thanks
  18. So basically, Im out? lol They are "Paid" instructors only, none on a volunteer basis? Like I said, Im certified by DCJS as an instructor. I understand the need to take a trainers course in the subject. But I guess its just paid full time instructors.
  19. Id just like to teach at the training center, veh extrication, on a volunteer basis if they do that. Wanted to figure out what courses I needed to do that.
  20. If anyone reading this post is a Police Motorcycle Officer in Westchester County, message me. We are starting up an organization with a web site and all. It is in the preliminary stages but it will be up and running soon. The site will have a members area with a message board, you can use it like this board or we'll have a section for upcoming events as well as the capability for mass email for emergency events. So email me with your name, rank, dept and email address and I'll add it to our list. Thanks

  23. F&J is really good, but a hike. American Gun and Uniform on 119 in Greenburg/Elmsford. Hard to spot, on the second floor of a building, right on the corner up fromt he post office or a bank.
  24. Ossining: Best pumper, ladder, rescue, color guard, regulation. 2nd best overall: Brewster Best Overall: Mahopac Cant remember the rest.
  25. Now with TRACS the supporting deposition is issued right on the scene. Its a beautiful thing. Deps were a hassle before because you had to type it out, type a cover letter, write the envelope, provide the court with proof of mailing etc. It would take about 10 minutes a piece, and when you come back off of RDOs and there's a stack of 20, you might as well get comfy at the computer. But like I said, TRACS allows the officer, at his discretion (some depts require it) to issue the dep on the scene and you're done with the whole thing. As far as what a motorist is "entitled" to on the side of the road is nothing but a ticket, like it was stated, 90 degrees out, traffic wizzing by the seat of your pants, this is no time for a pre-trial conference. And when you get baited into these conversations it usually ends in a civilian complaint or something of that nature.
