  2. Not to mention KME, Ferrara, HME, pre-2008 Sutphen, older (or current "low-end") Spartan, etc., in terms of fire apparatus. That's a VERY common design! Definitely hard to imagine that parts (or straight-out replacements) can't be found somewhere.

At least the blades are still standing straight up and parallel....and not starting to point toward each other like many a new KME seem to be doing lately. That's gotta cause problems with visibility sooner or later.

As for PCFD.....maybe they can make arrangements to get their hands back on a certain Mack to use as a spare for a little while? Or maybe not. ;):D

believe i saw 3 career members on 59 the other day, not sure if they were training, or that is a temporary staffing assignment?

  3. Obviously, I will have to weigh in on this topic. I can truly say that these guys are the real deal. They have saved many lives, that's human beings, trapped in burning buildings during the course of their duties. What are the insurance savings there? These guys made the difference between "out of business" and "closed for the rest of the day".

The insurance industry mentioned that they only save 1.5 million bucks a year, whats a cool million and a half between friends? I bet if they had the 10 patrol wagons and 10 utility trucks of day gone by they would be in great shape to triple the savings or better. NYC has a lot of ground to cover (and I complained about 15 calls the other day)!

Mention was made of Mr. Roma in the article. I have met him personally and he is a great guy. I've never met one of these guys that didn't do a fantastic job as a Patrolman and/or Patrol Officer.

Enough ranting for now. I have to get ready for drill tonight, after all Cos Cob is possibly the busiest fire patrol in the USA at the moment.

    LONG LIVE THE PATROL!!

  4. Maybe it's been replaced or I am really out of touch, but has Stamford's Rescue 1 (the Freightliner/Hackney) been replaced? That truck has GOT to be beat by now...also, do they still have the Mack rescue?

Also, I'm completly lost with all the consolidation or whatevers going on in Stamford.....all the apparatus from the 5 volunteer departments...will any of that be relocated downtown or switched around? Is there any new apparatus currently on order?

Also, what's Stamford EMS using these days? Still the Ford F-350/Hortons?

    Thanks!

Last I heard they used the Mack as a reserve rescue which is used to carry the dive equipment. Not sure if this is still their standard setup.

i believe the old one is a 1969, or 1970's gmc 4wd. Last time i saw it out was over the summer, had a job in the backcountry and one of the engines got stuck on the lawn, they used the mini attacks winch to get it out. that thing was sweet looking. I think it might have had locking differentials?

  7. Something needs to be done, before anything else happens. It doesn't make sense to me why they wouldn't just give it all up and let SFRD take over it's a little too late for "plan b".

Didn't rural metro have a house fire about 10 years ago, that Greenwich had to go in for mutual aide? Also were there any similarities between the current situation in Stamford and the one that went on between rye brook and port chester?

  8. With Fire Prevention Week getting closer I was wondering what departments do for an open house? I have heard of dept's doing hands on demonstrations, ( extrication's, and simulated kitchen fires). Is delivering simple fire safety messages to your residences better than showing them what their tax dollars pay for? Would it be more beneficial to the people attending open house to learn how to change their batteries instead of watching firemen climb ladders? Also, has anyone heard of having a recruitment, and or donation table there?
