  1. The FDNY MERV's is a waste of resources and poorly designed. They can only carry two patients that are supine. Which is the same amount our ambulances can carry.
  2. Yes it is. However if the pt is supine they will clearly be visible to the camera. I do not know their policy on the devices because I am not a member of the vac.
  3. I know a a vac that has a video and audio recorder that records the patient compartment and the road. If your company can do it what is stopping civilians from doing so.
  4. You got to love judges who legislate from the bench. Unbelievable!
  5. EMT Assaulted At OWS Updated: Thursday, 10 Nov 2011, 1:50 PM EST Published : Thursday, 10 Nov 2011, 1:00 PM EST MYFOXNY.COM STAFF REPORT http://www.myfoxny.c...f#ixzz1dKQB0oXC
  6. Cfr is assigned to the majority of als assigments. If the als is extended they will also send a bls.
  7. The vehicles are usually retired city vehicles that are bought by a movie production company.
  8. On a side note they did not spend all of the money from the second stimulus bill. Those shovel ready jobs are still not ready. The local governments have to learn how to budget themselves and set priorities. For example NYC, the mayor is spending millions of dollars on bike lanes, bike racks and city benches. They also renamed a few bridges. Then in the same news conference he is telling the city's emergency services that their budgets are going to be cut. If you ask any citizen would they rather have a teacher, FF, medic, police officer or a bike lane, bike racks , city benches. You know what the majority of the people will say. To give a local government like this federal money only makes the situation worse.
  9. I have no problem telling them that kicking the can down the road will not solve the problem. Look what happened the last time Obama did this. The second the federal money was spent the same police officers firefighters and teachers were laid off.
  10. I am against the federal government bailing out local governments. Especially when the federal government is borrowing money to do so. The local governments need to learn how to balance a budget. Everyone who works for the government knows where there is a waste of resources. The economy will force the government to get rid of the waste (which includes duplication of services) and save the tax payers some money.
  11. If the bridge is not safe for cars, then it is not safe for pedestrians. Demolish the bridge sell it for scrap and put that money towards the cost of the new bridge.
  12. This is the problem with unions. They have to evolve to where they have the best employees and are willing to get rid of the dead weight. When you have a job where you know you it is almost impossible to lose your job you will not give it your 100% and will not always do the right thing. Where as if you know that you can lose your job if your do not to do the right thing and/or do not know what you are doing, then you are going to bust your rear end to learn the job, and to always do the right thing. Nothing pisses me off more then looking at the screw ups on my job and knowing the only reason they still have a job is because of the union.
  13. How much do you pay towards your pension? How much do you pay towards your healthcare? If you pay nothing towards any of these benefits then you have nothing to complain about. Maybe you should work in a nonunion shop and see what the real world is like. Job security should be reduced. If you do not know what you are doing then you should not have a job. Same goes if you are a screw up who does not do the right thing. This is where the unions fail. Instead of cutting out the dead weight, they protect these workers and make sure they have a job.
  14. So you think they company should pay people to take care of a service that is becoming nonexistent? If that is the case then where are all of the switch board operators?
  15. The union members are the ones who choose not to work. The did not get fired or laid off. If I was unemployed and looking to feed my family I would jump on the first job I can get. Even with all of the give backs.
  16. The scabs are not taking away your lively hood. You are doing that by yourself choosing not to work. How are you supporting your wife and kids if you are not working? If you were working you would not have to worry about this. Verizon workers lost all of my support when they stopped negotiating in good faith. Such as cutting lines and damaging network equipment. I hate to break it to you land lines are a dying breed. I know very few people who still have a land line. This is the cellular / wireless age. The writing is on the wall. It is time to start looking for another career.
  17. "the company is bringing in 20,000 non-union workers from other states to fill in for the striking workers." I am glad the nonunion workers are getting work. Unemployment is over 9% they should be happy they have a job.
  18. The lowering of a FDNY EMS Ambulance into the museum. The lowering of FDNY Ladder 3 into the museum.
  19. Yesterday a FDNY ambulance from 9/11 was lowered into the museum. Tomorrow they will lower a FDNY engine from 9/11 into the museum.
  20. No wonder the property taxes are ridiculous in Croton. There is so much waste of lights on this vehicle it is ridiculous.
  21. M'ave I agree with you that no companies should be closed. The point that I am trying to get across is if you close 20 fire companies then you have to get rid of the cfr program.Very few companies will be available for fires with 20 companies closed and the cfr program still going. I do not agree with Bloomberg's policies and proposals. Like I said earlier the essential services should be the last thing to cut. Not the first. I can name a bunch off of the top of my head that should be cut or scrapped all together. Such as City time, UCT, bike lanes, medicaid, section 8, free cell phones, day care, and so on.
  22. The reason why the engine company usually arrives before the ambulance is because the Engine has a two minute head start. The engine gets assigned on the pd call type. EMS gets assigned when the CRO is done triaging the call. Know matter what line of work you do the more hands the better. But with that being said EMS is my job fighting fires is yours. I can do a arrest with a bls and a boss with out delaying or compromising patient care. I have canceled the CFR numerous times on a arrest and still have a high ROSC rate. Like I said if you get rid of the CFR program then there will be more engine companies available for the fire.
  23. I am going to get flack for saying this but stop the cfr program. It does not work. All it does is stop the clock. Have the firefighters go back to performing fire duties. If you take out the ems runs the call volume for the fire side will cut in half. Then you can close the 20 companies with out a problem. In all honesty the Mayor would rather spend billions on water front property and bike lanes instead essential services. These projects and entitlement programs should be cut first. But that will never happen.
