  3. What Westchester needs, is

    A) A lot more dispatchers period

    B) a Dispatcher assigned to each incident

    C) a radio system where each incident is assigned a specific Tac or Ops channel i.e."60-Control to Smithville, 123 Main Street, Structure Fire, Utilize Tac 2 for fireground, Tac 3 for Tanker Ops"

    D) a radio system where the dispatchers can hear the actual fire ground communications, for safety and logistical purposes

    E) a radio system that doesn't have dead spots throughout the county, or dead spots 5' inside of a building

    F) a radio system that everyone uses.... Fire, Police, EMS.

well it just so has it that onondaga county operates like this and it works fairly well

  4. "BFD Golf Outing: September 11, 2015" I was under the impression that members of the fire service are either on duty or attending remembrance ceremonies on this day. For those who are unaware, (or have forgotten) on September 11th, 2001 the fire service lost more firefighters at one incident than ever in its history.

sir i assure you that we at buchanan engine have not forgotten in any way shape or form

  6. In Westchester, are fire levels pre programmed? If an incident commander requests a first alarm or a second alarm, does dispatch automatically know what and who to dispatch or does the IC ask for the apparatus and crews individually? Like if a IC requests a second alarm on the south side of Peekskill, does dispatch automatically send Buchanan, Montrose, Verplank to the scene, and have Continental village and Mohegan cover the city or does the Chief have to figure out what he wants?

it depends on the situation because buchanan with thier cascade is more commonly on the 1st alarm with mohegan as the fast team and others on s/b within the city

  7. I would like to point out that 60 control was dispatching departments for their FAST when in fact these departments never had one to begin with. Not sure how that happened but it did. Either way everyone did a good job and worked together great. It was honestly one of the smoothest jobs i've been to in sometime.

this is why departments should train with basic fast techniques to function as a fas team until one is on scene for example buchanan and motrose are doing had done something like this last year

  8. Our county team trains with departments regularly, and is required for all Firefighter I courses when they go to the training center. They are also required to be present for all live fire excercises at the training center.

I will be planning a drill for them to attend with our department soon I hope, because not too many of our people are familiar with their techniques and what is expected of us as a department when they actually go to work on a scene.

yes but in westchester they dont train together as much as they should

  9. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the proposals would:

—Further restrict assault weapons to define them by a single feature, such as a pistol grip. Current law requires two features.

—Make the unsafe storage of assault weapons a misdemeanor.

—Mandate a police registry of assault weapons.

—Establish a state registry for all private sales, with a background check done through a licensed dealer for a fee, excluding sales to immediate relatives.

—Require a therapist who believes a mental health patient made a credible threat to use a gun illegally to report the threat to a mental health director who would then have to report serious threats to the state Department of Criminal Justice Services. A patient's gun could be taken from him or her.

—Ban the Internet sale of assault weapons.

—Restrict ammunition magazines to seven bullets, from the current national standard of 10. Current owners of higher-capacity magazines would have a year to sell them out of state. An owner caught at home with eight or more bullets in a magazine could face a misdemeanor charge.

—Require that stolen guns be reported within 24 hours. Otherwise, the owner would face a possible misdemeanor.

—Increase sentences for gun crimes including for taking a gun on school property. The "Webster provision" would increase penalties for shooting first responders. Two firefighters were killed when shot by a person who set a fire in the western New York town of Webster last month. The crime would be punishable by life in prison without parole.

—Limit the state records law to protect handgun owners from being identified publicly. The provision would allow a handgun permit holder a means to maintain privacy under the Freedom of Information law.

—Require pistol permit holders or those who will be registered as owners of assault rifles to be recertifies at least every five years to make sure they are still legally able to own the guns.

im bot gonnan lie some things in the seem reasonable while others dont does anyone think we can come to a comprimse with this
