  1. By the way, how bad was that fire that night? Never heard anything else about it.
  2. I got a laugh from The Journal News article on this incident in Sunday's paper. The headline was "budding graffiti artist" killed. They made it sound like he was the next Picasso! What ashame!!
  3. Thanks for that Izzy. I never thought of it that way. But that makes sense! They say you learn something new everyday......
  4. It seems to me that scanner makers always come up with a way to keep up with new radio systems. Remember when trunking first came about? That was the end of scanning. That was overcome. Then it was digital encryption. That was overcome too. Whatever agencies do to block out scanner listeners are usually defeated. I don't believe new laws wil have any affect either. Who's going to enforce them and how?
  5. Oh my God! That website is amazing! It looks like something from "24". Makes you feel like Jack Bauer!!!!!
  6. I think any of us with a heart or any kind of respect have had that guilty feeling of photographing a fire. If you really think about it though, in almost all cases its about photographing the actions of firefighters and others at the scene of the fire that we're really after, not the raging fire that's coming out the window. Its always about having people in the pictures that makes them interesting. I don't know why exactly, but I have always felt more comfortable taking pictures at fires involving "taxpayers" or busineses than homes or certainly apartment buildings. I guess its because your business or your car, for example, can be nore easily replaced than personal belongings from your home. Basically, you stay out of the way of emergency workers and not draw attention to yourself. My experience taking pictures at some fires (especially in urban areas) has been people being more excited about you being from the newspaper or tv news than getting upset at you for taking the pictures in the first place!! Anyway, Happy Holidays to all and keep those pictures coming!!
  7. I read your Blog and I say good for you!!! You did the right thing by not giving in and getting the car anyway and falling for their BS. If I were you, I would try to consider something other than Honda now. Good luck with reaching Honda. I hope you get some satifisaction.
  8. Yep. Same here! Outside box was marked "Ladder1" as well as inside box. Got Engine 1 and the billing was correct though.

  10. Cant think of any off hand right now but your best bet is probably going to one of the local train/toy shows. There is one coming up in Poughkeepsie at the Mid Hudson Center. I can get you the date if you're interested. They have it every year. And of course there are always the shows at the Wesrchester County Center. They usually have one right around Christmas.

  13. I think maybe what you need to figure out is what are the most important things on the site that the most people come to look for. Do most people come to see the message forums or do more people come to see the latest pictures? Do most come to see the blogs or other links? Personally, the frst thing i look for is the Incident Alerts and then the different topics on the message forums. So, I would say that those links should be closest to the top with a new picture each day(if possible), like it is now, heading the page. That would be followed by links to the other featues according to what is most popular. You may know that better than anyone. I would say though that in looking at the main page today that it is a little long and that some of the links to the pictures near the bottom are a few months old and that perhaps they could be taken off sooner. I would guess that a majority of viewers have seen them by now anyway. Doing this may eliminate some of the "clutter" that some are referring to. Overall though, I appreciate the hard work and time that you put into the site and if you did nothing else to change it that would be fine too.

  22. You looking for FD or PD?
  23. Congatulations to both of you from a "Yorktowner." Maybe we'll run in to you guys on the Cape some day!! And keep up the great work on the website!!
  24. Thanks for the response. It sounds like it also help to "moderate" the response so that you don't have units racing with lights and siren to minor calls. I think its a good system.
  25. Can someone explain the different level medical calls that are dispatched by Putnam and other Departments? The "bravo" "delta" calls etc. What is the difference?
